Title: Magic in College
Post by: #noided on June 11, 2013, 01:29:39 PM
Like many other members of this forum, in August I will be shipping off to college. I have never been a paper Magic player though, due to lack of time/money/LGS etc. Before I leave i would like to change this. That is why I'm asking what formats are most popular in College. I'd rather not het into standard because of it's stupid high cost. I'm thinking about putting together a couple EDH decks. So iMTG, how did you Magic in college?

Also college general.

Not gonna lie, standard is the most popular format. But in college it will probably be easy to find an EDH playgroup as well. Also a lot of players in college are casual and just play 60 card decks with random cards they have, and don't know the rules too well. If you are looking for modern players, some people who play standard also play modern.

Have fun in college, but don't spend all your time on magic! Do your homework! ;)

When I went to school it was casual modern and almost every magic player I've met has an EDH deck on hand.

As an Engineering major, I hope I don't spend too much time on Magic.

I can't stress this enough: implement free time daily. I've seen people go to college, and burn out the first semester cause they didn't give themselves free time.

Wally's right but I'll add a caveat. Make sure free time is after some work time. My freshman year was a disaster because I decided my whole year was free time...
