Title: Venom
Post by: Thomas269 on June 04, 2013, 06:43:16 PM
Hi,
I'd like some clarification on the series 4 card venom. It seems to be worded so that any creature blocking enchanted creature, except walls, is sent to the grave yard. I understand this as the attacking creature doesn't have to deal damage to the blockers, as soon as they are declared as blockers there fate is seal. Is this correct??? Card Link ----->  {Venom}

Essentially yes, damage doesn't matter. Non wall creatures that block or are blocked will be destroyed after combat.

RESOLVED

Scars said it right. This is also really bad if you find a way to make all defending creature block if able. Maybe use "Alluring Scent"?

 {Lure} and  {Venom} one of the oldest combos in the book. Nowadays you can use  {Golgari Decoy}

Yes I use lure and venom in my deck as a combo. But I have a new question if I was to equip  {Scythe of the Wretched} to a 10/10  {Heedless One} can I, as the attacker, spread the damage so I can take control of up to ten creatures or does the blocker get to assign where the damage is dealt? Thank you all for the other replies :-) - Cards I didn't link ------>  {Lure}  {Venom}

They are destroyed only after combat, so you have to assign would-be lethal damage to them (damage equal to their toughness). If you had death touch, though, even 1 point of damage is considered lethal, so you could do it

Not to my knowledge.. I believe that you (the attacker) get to choose what creatures attack and the opponent gets to choose how blockers are assigned and in what order.

Any one else like to second/confirm that?

Sounds about right.

This reminds me of the old {lure} - {craw giant} combo lol

This does pose a follow up question as well though. When does the equipment ability trigger?

If an opponent declared blockers with three creatures, once damage rolls through... Does the ability active after the first creature dies and comes back to play equipped? Or does all damage go through instantly and the equipment target all three players?

Anyone have any ideas on that part of it?

Blockers are chosen by the defending player. Damage assignment is chosen by the attacking player. Some effects might say otherwise, butá then explain what to do in the card very well, like {lure} (I believe banding is the only one really confusing. Just ignore banding like 90% of the community and WotC do).

all damage is done, an only then will the players get priority (wen dmg step ends). Right before priority is given, state based actions are checked, sending all creatures to the graveyard at the same time, triggering the ability for all of them. Then the owner of the equipment chooses in which order to add them to the stack, and the equipment will go through all of them, ending with the first one added to the stack (last to resolve). This is for each dmg step, so it would actually be between the first and second damage steps if the creature equipped has first or double strike. No players are targeted though ;)

Thank you all for clarifying my combo :-)
