Can I equip Illusionist's Bracers to Krenko, Mob Boss and use the ability to double goblins twice even though Krenko has to tap?

The ability being used is an activated ability that does not produce mana, so yes it can be copied.

Krenko taps to activate the ability, the {Illusionist's Bracers} notice a non mana activated ability of the equipped creature being payed for and activated, and then it makes it happen twice. No need for Krenko to to tap again, the Bracers do all the heavy lifting!
