I am building my first commander deck with Trostani. I know I can use only green or white cards in my deck but what about hybrid cards? Can I use {Boros Reckoner} in my deck?
Hybrid cards are (stupidly) both colors on the card. I disagree with it, and disagree with other color identity rules - that is not the topic. Hybrids a cards are both colors on the card.
Dont completely rule it out the people you play with might be okay with you using hybrid cards
And yet they are not considered a "multicolor" correct?

They are. Cards always count as all their colors.

So I could counter {boros reckoner} with {red elemental blast} or force someone to sacrifice it with {renounce the guilds} (if its their only multi permanent)?
Actually, you'd need a {blue elemental blast} for that....
The fact of the matter is that mono-colored decks can use Hybrid cards - why shouldn't commander decks? I support all decks being able to use colors they would ordinary be able to use. Hybrid are not gold cards, but play by exact same rules in EDH opinions.
Also, cards with alternate costs that are "outside of color identity" should be able to be used. Why can't {Ancient Grudge} be used mono-red? They can't pay the {G} cost because of the Commander, so what is the problem?
I think that there are too many unnecessary Commander rules, but it isn't a format I created. Our playgroup plays by the revised Color-Identity rules and old Legendary rule. We also have our own banned list.
I mean I think it adds creativity to deck construction. My making card pools so narrow it forces you to look deeper into the history of magic for old and cool cards you have never known about. I feel like mono colored deck should never be allowed to use hybrid cards. Playing a changing the rule of hybrid cards takes the fun out of playing five colors because a 3 colored general can sneak the other two in. Each color/guild/shard/wedge has a fun and unique flavor that is why you play it. Hybrid card ad to it when used with current rules but take away from it when used incorrectly
Theoretically a mono colored deck could sneak in the other four colors and be able to do things which typically that color should never do on its own. It takes away the challenge of mono color and the reward of playing five color
I certainly am not lacking options. I have to have the deck done by Monday, my lgs is running EDH on Mondays starting next, and I think I have narrowed it down to about 400 cards. I was just wondering. I actually really wanted to run {Lingering Souls} but I will get by somehow. Changing rules is not an option as the lgs will abide by the EDH rules as they stand. I am excited though, it seems like it will be fun.
