Title: Kingdom Hearts 1.5
Post by: FlickerYourOwnIdentity on May 28, 2013, 10:52:04 PM
Yup, you heard right.  Square Enix is going to stick to its roots and...

Remake an amazing game, instead of making what we have ALL BEEN WANTING.

I mean, they are going to make the exact same game, except they are going to make slightly better graphics, and little add ins.

I mean I'll buy it of coarse, hopefully it is like the one they released in Japan recently that is the exact same as Kingdom Hearts, but it had an epic boss battle in Beast's Castle.  But come on, I mean they must really hate the fanbase so much that they just listen to what we have to say, then not do it.  Hell, I bet that's their entire marketing plan.

But I am happy that they release this on the PS3, and they are adding Chain of Memories into the same game.  Making it longer, and hopefully more enjoyable.  At least they didn't release it on the DS, and hopefully thy avoid doing that from now on.  In fact I wish they would rerelease all the DS games onto the PS3, so those players can follow the story, and enjoy it without having to go out and buy a handheld that they would only use for that reason.  I wouldn't care if they kept making things like 'Kingdom Hearts 1.284846' if they included the DS games, as they touch up on them of course.

Your thoughts?

Sounds like a very SquareEnix thing to do, coldly exploit their iconic intellectual properties. It'll probably be good, I'd prefer they did something new...

Pardon me, but why the .love. can't anyone make a new game anymore??  I'm getting really sick of seeing "HD remakes."  Just give us the next game! I honestly don't care about KH, but just in general.

I can say that 6-ish years ago, some friends and I were looking at "spoilers" for KH3.  Where is it?  Buried under remakes 😓👎

Thats the funny thing, we were given spoilers, and everyone got excited.  They have been making new games though, ones with good story lines, and plot twists.  For the DS.

The thing that I like about kingdom hearts is that, they release games that take place in different parts of the timeline.

For example, the release a game midway through the series, and it acually happens at the beginning of the timeline in the actual story.  They have done that with every game, and threy don't usually release games in order, so Kingdom Hearts 3 was postponed for that reason.  However it has been far too long.

The way they release, is a great sales gimmick however, seeing as you have to buy literally ALL of their games to know what is going on.

The thing about kingdom hearts 3 is, this could be a game where it is not a sequel to Kingdom Hearts 1 or 2.  It could be the very beginning in fact, and that is what makes this franchise special.

I've gotten slightly off topic though, sorry! :)

I fell out of love with SquareEnix once they ported everything to PSOne, then Gameboy, then DS, the Wii, then the App Store, then whatever new system. How many times can you remaster, remix, reimagine, then remix that remaster of Final Fantasy 1?

I understand all companies do it, but they don't innovate anymore, they just re-release old games with micro-transactions for Final Fantasy VII character skins. Also, for all the amazing visuals and money spent making Final Fantasy XIII (and the inevitable rash of sequels and remixes) - American RPGs are stomping out Japanese style games.

Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Diablo, Fable, Mass Effect and others have all be great experiences - and on par, and perhaps better then linear JRPGs. The style is tired, and I am sick of seeing Cloud shoved into every intellectual property they own. I've had a great experience playing through New Vegas - memorable characters, incredibly deep back stories, seemingly limitless quests, interesting Vaults and a very customizable user experience. Is it perfect? No. Do I like it more then most SquareEnix games? I'd say so.

So it brings me back to the point of Kingdom Hearts, it was a good game. I enjoyed it (did not finish it), but none the less it was interesting. I don't know how many times they can keep doing the same thing, and it's annoying.

The entire PlayStation 2 era yielded 2 real Final Fantasy games (X and XII). In that huge lifespan that system had, I believe it to have produced also the two most mediocre entries (taking the 5 year gap between them into account). Final Fantasy 12 was interesting in the sort of Offline MMORPG idea, just didnt provide any compelling characters. Keep in mind that Grand Theft Auto series was at its hight, who's "sandbox style" would eventually be adopted by western RPGs.

After 12, the PlayStation 3 produced ONE Final Fantasy entry, 4 years ago. PlayStation 4 is on the horizon and it is becoming quite clear that SquareEnix isn't interested in producing new games (those cost a lot), but rather rereleasing old games and resting on past successes.

Dudecore sums it up well. My favorite games of all time are the old final fantasies.Final fantasy legend 2 and final fantasy adventure were my first exposure to rpgs and will always hold a place in my heart. From there I dived into 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, chrono trigger, chrono cross, secret of mana, sieken densetsu 3, and kindom hearts. But round about the time of 8 something broke for me . 9 was one of my favorite RPGs but by 10 I couldn't really invest in the world and story as much any more. Didn't bother with 11. By the time 12 rolled around I did the unthinkable: I didn't finish one of their games. I played FF 13 for 20 minutes and haven't touched a square game since.

I miss square but this iOS nonsense paired with my total disillusionment about their lack of substance in story telling has negated my interest.

Thanks goodness Bethesda is keeping my rpg love alive.

I like Fable not to get off track. And this does kind of tie in with what was said.
Original Fable. AMAZING every choice wasn't so obvious and you actually had to think about what you did and how it's gonna affect the world you're in. Fable two...no boss battles...only challenge was getting 1million gold for the tower they took everything good out. Slapped the same name on the box and hit send. Anyways I'm off track what I'm trying to get at is there is no CHALLENGE anymore. Games literally give you everything you need to beat it on screen or in quick pop up menus...I miss games like FF7 where yes. You CAN chase sephiroth to save the world. OR you can go into like a million side quests. Raising chocobos. The arena. Getting KoTR and all the master materia. See. THAT WAS CHALLENGING. Games nowadays its like. HEY GO HERE WE EVEN HAVE A MAP THAT MARKS EVERYTHING FOR YOU AND A GOLD TRAIL TO FOLLOW. It's like. Let me explore! Let me learn the game on my own! I don't want everything to be said to me. That makes every puzzle tedious and a chore to get through.
I want a game where it's RPG which character development. Amazing story. Completely different from any other game. And lets the player truly affect the outcome. Like fable 1. But like. Also. Say you chose to be evil. I want the game to give you a sense of guilt for the horrible choices you have made. Or to feel truly good about yourself for the good choices. And I agree with the whole stop just making HD remixes. Although. I want the DMC one because I haven't had an opportunity to get the other 3 games. Only played DMC 1 anyways yeah. I love rpg games. But they've gotten so simple and unmemorable. It's just sad....Square...where did you go wrong...*sigh*

Sit with me beside the fire young adventurer and I will speak to you of an era long past. There was a time of unforgiving challenge, a time of controller flinging, bowel shattering, furor inducing trial. It was in this dark time that adventurers intoned expletives and dark curses against the unwavering might of the Elder Cartidge gods. From this era was wrought the steeled nerve and stony resolve of the adult rpger. But the seers foretold of the coming of one elder god, a deity that was both the beginning and the end of its kind, and a power that would stymie even the most resolute warriors. This, my son, was the game that undid even me. This was Final Fantasy I.

Of this, we now speak only in whispers and in vague tales around the fire.

Of this be wary, young adventurer, lest you stumble unknowing into the clutches of the most terrible and omnipotent of calamities.

Of this I will speak no more.

Game production costs millions of dollars. When a game is made, it must appeal the broadest possible audience. Games now hold your hand the entire time, you learn new abilities and use those to defeat bosses. The final boss is culmination of your skills. It isn't exactly a bad thing.

Games of the past were needlessly frustrating - from either poor controls, camera movement, rubber-band AI, impossible odds and other barriers (like one-hit kills).

The sand-box style games deliver us from these older linear style games, by giving you different ways to experience the game. I like my games open ended, it provides me with the most replay value. I also never long for the days of Nintendo gaming, outside of the Castlevania series - I don't remember it fondly.

I like games that are frustratingly difficult but it's all possible if you keep a level head and know your own abilities. I don't want it to be like oh LINK IM YOUR FAIRY AND IM SAYING HIT HIM HERE THEN DODGE THEN REPEAT (you get the point) I hate games nowadays that show you EVERYTHING you have to do. Give me some mazes. Give me some difficult puzzle solving. Give me a difficult boss battle that leads to an amazing climax to the game!
This honestly is why I liked the Darksiders game. The bosses were interesting and the story was fun. Puzzles were actually puzzling. And the story was just fun to play through. Honestly during the final angel boss. I threw my controller probably like 3-6 times before I finally realized what I was doing wrong. This teaches the player instead of just showing them everything and letting them plow through the game. I love games that I can get stuck on for days and not figure out the puzzle. It's frustrating but when everything comes together. You beat the game. It took you forever to conquer every challenge. But. You feel fulfilled. Games nowadays just hack at the boss with your sword. Yay you won now where's the next game!?!
