Title: Possibility storm
Post by: Bigums on May 24, 2013, 02:49:27 PM
I was wondering if possibility storms effect could mill someone out considering they didn't have a second of a certain spell type in their deck left.

For example:

Possibility storm is in play and I want to play another enchantment that's in my hand.

Would i be able to cast the initial spell if there are no more enchantments in my deck, or would I kill myself with self mill?

If there's no spell you can cast with the effect, you simply put all the cards on the bottom of your library. You will not be able to cast the original spell.

See I had originally thought the same thing, but you would go through your whole deck and that part of the spell would never resolve. So how could you get to the "then" part of possibility storm without resolving what happens first.

Like if I played {Druid's deliverance} I could just use it as a populate trigger from the way it's worded, but I couldn't use {sundering growth} unless I had a target to cast the spell on. The populate effect wouldn't resolve.

Edit: having trouble posting cards

This was how we read it when it came up playing some pack wars. Basically, you lose if you would draw a card but cannot, which seems to be what happens.

It says you "may" cast it. Either way, the exiled cards go on the bottom of your library, which, if its empty, is now filled back up with all the cards you exiled with the storm.

When going through your library with possibility storm, your exiling the cards, not drawing them. If you aren't drawing cards you can't lose because you reach the end of your library.

Alright, I see what's confusing you here. With this card, your original spell doesn't even have to be exiled by possibility storm for you to start exiling cards for the "then" part (looking for one that shares a type).

If it did, the text would be something like this: "Whenever you cast a spell from your hand, exile that spell. If you do, exile cards from the top of your library...." And so forth. The "searching by exiling" part of the effect isn't dependent on any other part because of the wording. It's a very confusing card, and honestly I wish they hadn't printed it. I hope this cleared some things up for you.

Edit: And the same goes for the last "Then" effect. It isn't dependent on casting the card; it is simply the last part of the card's effect.
