Wizards: "lets make boxes $300 dollars and reprint the best modern cards ever but with really really bad art that will forsure make people so happy and excited oh yeah and did i forget to mention boxs are $300?" Easy access to modern my butt

In their defense, this box isn't truly meant for you to go and buy a whole box of. It's meant for drafting. And if you go in splitsies with friends so you can mock draft, it gets cheaper. On top of that, the box prices are stupid. Each pack MSRP at $6.99. At 24 packs per box, that's $167.76 before tax. You decide what the better option is.

I'm buying three and only opening 1, I'm gonna sit on 2 for a couple years.
The only game shops that will sell these for MSRP are none, ever. Unless they were foolish and did pre-orders before they knew about allocations or what was in the set. Also, demand will be so high for these boosters that I seriously doubt there will be enough product for any game shops to do much drafting, if any.
My shop is doing a first come first serve "near-msrp", they're basing their prices off of what SCG is buying boxes at. Should be getting mine at around $170 each.

My LGS isn't selling any at all. He's using them specifically for the draft. He's doing a round of 4 drafts, the winner from each draft will play a single elimination game in the modern format, and the winner gets a box. But several others I know are selling them at MSRP. There's no need to gouge the prices when they are pretty much going to sell quickly.
{Dark Confidant} sells for about $17 on Magic Online. With Modern Masters not being redeemable for the paper set, I could see him and {Tarmogoyf} dropping pretty drastically. Pretty crucial reprint for the Online players.
300 a box here :/
35 bucks for a draft.

Jesus dude, my other LGS is holding nothing but drafts for MM, no pack sales whatsoever. They're only charging about $23 a draft though...
$230 for a box here
First come first serve, no reserves
I think waiting on this set to be spoiled is good though, if its not that impressive I may skip a box, if it is impressive ill probably buy a box to horde away and just do a few sealed drafts
It will make modern staples like {Tarmogoyf} and {Dark Confidant} drop probably 5 to 10 bucks but fetch lands could easily go up by 5 to 10 bucks as well because they arnt getting reprinted and modern masters is for players to get into modern so people will need more fetchs

For Digital, probably. Paper won't see a price change of more then a few bucks. They aren't printing enough Modern Masters. Doing the math, which I did in another thread, probably somewhere around 220,000 {Tarmogofy}/{Dark Confidant}
My lgs is only ever doing 2 drafts with MM. I've been told that they will not be selling boxes in a whole at all they will only be puting them on sale for MSRP per pack.
"The goal of Modern Masters, as announced by Wizards is not to dump the price of Tarmogoyf, but instead introduce supply up to the levels of current Mythics. The original print runs were very small in comparison to the amount of players currently in the game.
Highlighted in the article is that some 268,000 Tarmogoyf printed compared to a some 1.1 million Deathrite Shaman (both rares at time of printing). It is unlikely 832,000 Tarmy's will be printed (it has been reassigned to Mythic), some simple arithmetic will show us were likely to get around 225,000 or so new Tarmogoyf - not really close to a sufficient number.
While nearly doubling the amount of Tarmogoyf available for all, they may actually fall into the right hands (tournament players who would use them) and packs aren't likely to be bought by the casual and non-modern players. I for one will not be purchasing any Modern Masters, nor do I truly have any intentions on doing so - I don't play modern."
Quoting myself.
Article i was referencing: http://legitmtg.com/culture/can-modern-masters-close-the-supply-demand-gap/
I had heard somewhere, do not recall where, that 10% or so of the product was going to Vegas for the Release. Higher Tier stores that make tons of purchases would be getting hundreds of boxes, while smaller stores would be getting 5 or less. Pretty strict rationing.
Modern Masters was also mentioned as an "experiment" of sorts, so it could be completely logical that if this experiment does works - that "Modern Masters 2" would be at a much higher print run and contain similar cards, or at least {Tarmogoyf} and the Fetchlands.
There isn't really much indication that printing 225,000 new Tarmy's would even so much has halve the price he's at now. It doesn't really work that way. With collectors, speculators, people holding onto unopened product, they'd have to completely flood the market with cards to even get the new ones out. All that being said, I'd expect about 150,000 or so to even get out (37,500 playsets). And of those relatively few available cards, prices to remain the same (give or take ten or so dollars)
While 225,000 sounds absolutely incredible, Magic has grown to insane degrees post-NWO. (http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/mm/172) There are almost as many players now then have ever played the game.
The art is HORRIBLE!
"Ach, Hans, run! It's the artwork!"

Couldn't have said it better myself. I know that for Colorado (for the most part) every store got a max of 18 boxes, no more. Some big stores bought out other venders to get around 50-ish (54 probably) to increase their inventory. This set makes me happy, but god damn is SCG really starting to piss me off, and you know what, eBay as well. Limited Print Runs shouldn't be given a suggested retail price. Wizards pretty much says, "Here guys, this is what you should sell it at. Now double that." Commander's Arsenal was some complete BS. My LGS only got 6...
Yeah many LGS in Los Angeles jack up prices on limited sets as they are released. I'm hoping FTV 20 isn't too much

Same in my area... We have a thriving mtg community so MSRP doesn't exist on limited run sets.
My lgs is preodering boxes at $150. Packs at $5

Order me a box. I'll pay you $180.
Our LGS doesn't really recognize what a gold mine this release is. The gal who manages the card counter says she'll sell me a box for $165 if she can get a few in. The challenge is that I have such a small town, fragile* LGS that I'm doubtful they'll get much in.
*On a tragic side note, our judge went ballistic on the store clerk a few weeks back. Apparently they had they "gall" to ask the players to leave at closing time when a tournament ran long. The judge at that event went on a shouting tirade so the manager has opted to drop their LGS status. The modern masters set will be our LGS swan song. Core and expansions will be available but that's it.
Bummer. Back to Ebay.
I preordered a box on eBay for 220$ and the lgs around here are doing sealed for 45$ and demand is high... I'm really hoping drafts will happen for around 22 but who knows.
I envision a mono-colored Creature Mythic cycle, would probably look like this.
White: {Aven Mindcensor}
Blue: {Vendilion Clique}
Black: {Dark Confidant}
Green: {Tarmogoyf}
Red: {Blood Knight}

I'd rather see {Iona, Shield of Emeria} or {Linvala, Keeper of Silence} in white. Is ROE fair game for MM?

Cutoff is Alara Reborn, so Zendikar is off limits. Also, I doubt they're printing money in EVERY single spot. It is supposed to be draftable, and thus - have bad reprints.

I don't see them printing $40 cards in each Mythic spot. They've never really done anything like that before - not even in a From the Vault. {Blood Knight} would be powerful in Modern Masters limited, and wouldn't destabilize the world.

Got a reprint in FTV, it's probably wishful thinking to see him reprinted in MM.
