Hi guys,
I was sitting today and thinking how to make next few weeks more entertaining for all of us. And then it hit me. Why not to announce some interesting contest? But what kind of contest? It should be at least a little original and people should enjoy it, not only the attendants but also the rest of forum. And I think I got an idea.
Rules of the contest:
1, Attendants will create a deck. The deck will be standard format and fairly competitive.
2, Then they will write a story containing all card names from the current deck-list (incl. lands), story can refer also to cards that are not in decklist. The story must have some form and spirit. The story must be at least 750 words long. Stories that will not meet limit of 750 words will be rejected
3, Attendants will PM or email (whitedrake@me.com; subject = Creativity Contest - Nickname) me the story with decklist, decklist can be either attached to the mail or inserted as a plain text in PM. Stories delivered in different way will not be considered and accepted to the contest
4, Jury (me, my wife - she is teaching English and my friend who writes stories for children) will pick 3 best stories and post them here.
5, Forum members will vote for winner.
The contest (writing part) starts now and ends 7/june 2013 20:00 CET. The three best stories will be announced on 10/june 2013 20:00 CET and voting for the winner will end on 14/june 2013 20:00 CET

Of course it would not be a contest if there would be no prizes. Prizes for winner besides of fame and social credit are these two foil full alter art cards:

@The1337Magician I would prefer if you would create some new deck but of course it is up to you. In my opinion it is better to think about the story during the deck assembling...;)
I might just edit my Dimir deck and add all my Dragon's Maze cards. And if that isn't my story, I'll do it anyway.

No you do not need to include sideboard...;)
Does the deck need to be good?
Can you reference cards outside of the deck too? Or can you only talk about the ones in your deck?
@MrsNosihctuh you can refer also to cards that are not in deck... But the story must contain all card names from the decklist...;)

The deck should be competitive as I already stated in rules of the contest. Of course I do not expect that all of you will create ultra competitive decks... The deck should be at least that good that you would be able to take it to FNM and win few matches with it...;)

Do you have to own all of the cards in the deck, or does it just have to be a legal standard deck?

Ok... Last question for now... If the deck contains four of a specific card, do you have to use that card's name four different times?
No you can use it once or multiple times it is only up to you... I do not mind the questions, it is better to ask and I have no problem with additional explanations, if it is not clear enough to anyone. ;)

Sir, this is an absolutely wonderful idea. I might toss in something to the prize pool - creative writing is important to me, and I love this. I might enter (and withdraw my ability to win - I'd only want to do it for fun) if I can find the time.
I assume you don't include lands in the story.

Stories and decklists that will be posted here will be deleted. On 3/June I will post 3 best stories here in Fun Subsection and members of forum will vote for winner... As stated in rules...;)

I have a story idea, and a deck. The charecter isn't in the deck (its one i made up) but the deck reflects the story
Can I just design a single card instead? No deck would realy fit the story. Or maybe a couple of cards?
Edit: there's a certain spell a charecter uses (I hint at how it is done) in my story that doesn't realy fit any magic card. That's why I am asking. Oh well, ill just submit the story anyway as kind if a fun side note and not part of this contest

@Birdbrain if the story will meet the requirements that were stated in rules then I will accept it to the contest.
Anyway I am a bit disapointed... One day left and I got only two stories... I expected a little bigger interest... Seems that people here are not interested in contests of this kind... I had more of them on my mind, but I will not bother bcs obviously there is no interest in such things...;)

No, it wasn't that I wasn't interested; it was because I had finals this week. I've been so busy with studying. I will turn it in today.

Can someone make up there own spells in the story as long as they can logically explain the jest of how there done?
As long as the requirments stated in rules are met you can do whatever you want...;)

I've always had trouble sticking to an outline and therefore making my stories way too long. I knew where I was beginning, and I knew where I wanted it to end. It was the middle that was fuzzy until I got something on paper that I could look at and be surprised at how good the ramblings in my head sounded.
I know how you feel. I knew where I was beginning, and end. Middle could have been better though. But I liked how it led up nonetheless.
How'd you feel about the deck itself?
I personaly think my story could have been better. Though I wanted to see if restrictions (in this case time) realy did breed creativity

The deck built itself for me. The creatures just ended up being my troops minus of course Myc, who doesn't have a card, and the Elves of Deep Shadow who aren't standard legal. The lands I picked out before writing; so I just threaded them in there. For the spells, I had a list of all standard legal cards in my colors, and I used the ones that fit the story.

@Gorzo there were two more stories one did not meet length ( it was only about 300 words ) and second did not contain card names at all... Even though it was quite nice story I could not accept it... I can post that one after the contest is over...;)
Honestly I hoped for more stories...:( Obviously there are not enough creative people with enough of free time or the prizes are not that atractive...:)

I started a story, but I only got about a paragraph into it before I stopped, and went camping with the fam, now I've forgotten all about it. sorry 😓
