The technique is taking a statement which your opponent used, finding at least one example which logically links it to some new question which is of 'poisonous box' type, for example 'my wife likes pink' -> 'when did you stop beating up your wife?', and asking this question. I noticed that such questions quite often end online discussions, which to some people is the same as winning the dispute.

Don't think that strategy will work haha. In this situation you merely made a random comment with little relevance... perhaps it was inflammatory towards the target user? As I wasn't the target I can't be sure.

I think you are right. I was advised in the past, in disputes with an asinine person you should never lower yourself to their lever or they will win by experience. Or something along the lines.
