Title: Infect on palisade giant
Post by: Paraluke on May 13, 2013, 03:47:41 AM
{Palisade Giant} redirects all damage to itself. If i have one in play with say {Holy Mantle}, If the creatures that dealt damage have infect, would that be translated to -1/-1s or none since all damage from creatures are prevented?

The Palisade would have pro-creatures so any creatures that would attempt to deal damage to it would have their damage negated, and therefore no counters would be placed.

Okay that's what I thought, just needed a confirmation. So infect is subject to damage rules, and only if it is dealt as damage does it change to -1/-1 counters instead.

As it reads, instead of damage, it deals -1/-1 counters whenever a point of damage would. E dealt. It's a replacement effect, which requires damage to still be dealt.

Okay thanks. Somehow that phrase eluded from me while I read on infect. Apologies.

Of course, anytime. No need for apologies! Feel free to ask all of your rules questions, no matter how mundane or trivial. (not saying this is a mundane question) You never know if someone else may have been wondering this exact same thing and just never took the time to ask. You may be helping more than just yourself here.

But I believe the damage is still dealt, but the  {Palisade Giant} takes the damage instead of you or your creatures, he's not indestructible, he can still die. So wouldn't the giant get the -1/-1 counters as damage is being dealt to him?

Normally, yes. But the Palisade is also enchanted by {Holy Mantle}, which gives him protection from creatures.

Crap, sorry, I cleverly decided to ignore that part so I could seem smart and it made me look super not smart. I'm on the same page now, ignore that last transmission.
