Title: Plains walker
Post by: Blazingblevins on May 13, 2013, 03:22:06 AM
I was wondering how a plains walker works. What does the +1 mean and how do you use it. Any and all in depth explanation would be very helpful. Thank you

I think it is a broad question, maybe you can try to read up rules 306 on planeswalker before you ask specific questions?

Well my feel, any helpful souls able to summarize in 100 words?

Sure.... +1 adds a loyalty counter to PW; you can only use 1 ability and only on your turn. If PW takes damage he loses loyalty counters. 0 loyalty counters and PW is dead. -1 loyalty counters subtracts total loyalty counters.

Ok. So do u keep adding on a +1 each turn you use the first ability. Or do u have to build him up like any other creature for him to use a ability that is more than on the card. Do you understand what I am trying to find out?

Lets use  {Ajani Goldmane} as an example. He starts with 4 loyalty counters when he hits the field, so you have 2 options, you can either us his +1 and get him to 5, or his -1 and put him at 3. You may only use one ability a turn (your turn) at sorcery speed. To use his -6 or as some like to call the final ability, his ultimate, you must use his +1 twice to get him to six loyalty counters. However using his -6 when he only has 6 counters will kill him, and remember, an opponents creatures can attack your planeswalkers, as well as redirect direct damage to you to them instead (like  {Searing Spear}. These are just the basics, but I hope it helps.

Thanks. That really cleared up a lot. Now last question  I'm pretty sure it does. But his loyalties regenerate on my next upkeep right?

Nope, the rule I believe you are referring to is only applied to creatures. Planeswalkers work differently, if  {Ajani Goldmane} has 4 loyalty, and gets hit for 2, he will only have 2 loyalty counters until he gains more. Think of it as how much the planeswalker can put up with, the counters literally signify loyalty to you, so when they lose all counters and get fed up they leave. Hope this helps, planeswalkers are very powerful ally's in the mtg world.
