I was wondering if elder scale wurm stop loss of life? Or does it just do damage?

in the rulings  - {Elderscale Wurm}'s last ability doesn't affect loss or payment of life.

"Instead" = replacement effect. With the wurm in play, any damage reducing your life total will reduce it to seven, which its already at most likely.
Damage only. Life loss is not prevented.
