Title: Hexproof
Post by: Taysby on May 10, 2013, 03:45:36 PM
Does hexproof beat area effecting spells like {bonfire of the damned}?  I've never been sure.

Nope, as long as the spell doesn't say "target creature".

Hexproof stops spells and abilities your opponents control that target. So no, Bonfire still get sthrough. Unless of course, you yourself had Hexproof through something like {Witchbane Orb}.

Nope. A spell that targets something will specifically say so. {Bonfire of the Damned} doesn't target the creatures, just the player. The creatures are just dealt damage by Bonfire which bypasses the hexproof

Spells that target literally say the word "target" on the card. "Bonfire" only targets the player. Just like {blasphemous act} or {wrath of god}, hexproof or shroud won't save it because it isn't being targeted specifically.

Check out the stickied post here in Rules, "Rules Q&A and FAQ", I actually covered this exact scenario in the FAQ part at the bottom.

Shroud, no. You can enchant a hexproof creature if you control it.

Hexproof no also. If your casting a spell to gain control of target creature, I'm guessing you don't have control of it right now, so hexproof prevents you from targeting it.

An older version of {Witchbane Orb} was {True Believer}.Just wanted to share.
