Title: Attacking planeswalkers?!?
Post by: Creeper0415 on May 09, 2013, 04:17:30 PM
I will sound stupid, but when you attack a planeswalker, does the power take away from the loyalty counters?? Please reply if you know

Rule 119.3c

Damage dealt to a Planeswalker causes that many loyalty counters to be removed from that Planeswalker

Assuming the power of any attacking creatures that hit actually cause damage, the damage caused will be subtracted from the planeswalker's loyalty counter total.  Prevention or replacement effects notwithstanding.

The rules and such.
And this app.
Should tell you everything you need to know.
I mean I've learned so much all my friends don't understand. Thanks to all the great people willing to help the noobs! ^-^
And if you have a deck your little rule book page has that info doesn't it?

That depends whether or not the Duel Deck involves Planeswalkers or not.

Can planeswalkers actually deal damage to other creatures on the field? I know they can block, and they lose the number of loyalty counters equal to the creature's power, but can Tibalt the Fiend-Blooded actually attack?

No, only creatures can attack or block. Planeswalkers cannot block, but they can be attacked. The only actions they can perform are their loyalty abilities (and taking damage in the form of loyalty reduction, but that's not really an action).

Planeswalkers cannot attack or block. (except for in specific cases such as any of the Gideons - {Gideon Jura}/{Gideon, Champion of Justice}, because he has the ability to turn into an actual creature)

I'm pretty sure Gideon is the only one who can "become" a creature and then attack, but to the best of my knowledge, no, they don't deal damage to creatures attacking them. Chandra can deal direct damage, domri can make them fight, nicol bolas just blows stuff up, vraska can kill them if they touch her, but none of them deal damage during combat. Hope this helps.

There are some strange ways to make your planeswalkers attack if you really wanted to, just for the record. {March of the Machines} + {Liquimetal Coating}, for example :P Not at all practical, but makes things...umm...interesting.

Gideon can attack, but impossible for him to block. Can only use loyalty abilities on your turn .

I have a question about  {Vraska the Unseen}
Would the damage that creature was going to do be prevented by her ability if it attacked her? Or would like the damage resolve. Then her ability take affect?

The damage would go through. Note the wording here, "when a creature deals damage, destroy the creature." The creature dealing damage to her is the condition for the effect to trigger, and the effect is destroying it. If no damage is done, no destroy effect happens. Make sense?

Ok. I'm just going to sigh and say my friends don't understand the rules of Magic.
They're all convinced that she can just negate all damage done to her.
Thanks so much for this.

Well for such a decent effect
It is a rather cheap card
Most you could possibly be spending is 3$
And I've seen it go low as .25
