Title: THE GREAT MODERATOR SEARCH (Improvement)
Post by: Dudecore on May 07, 2013, 05:20:35 PM
The Great Moderator Search rolls on. In this round we see everyone who moves on and the new task for those participants. First I'd like to thank everyone willing to engage in this process, and everyone deserves a round of applause. The voting was so close that we've decided to add a 5th spot to this round. It was only intended to be 4, but there are so many qualified applicants that deserve a shot. So here we go with a refresher of the previous round. It consisted of 40 points made up of "Multiple Choice Questions", 40 points made up of "Subjective Essay Questions" and 20 points made up of our grading your Round 1 "Application effectiveness". If you would like to know how you graded, lemme know in PMs. So without much further wait, iMtG Gathering Council presents Round 3.

The task this time is to write an essay outlining What would you do to improve iMtG's user experience and if you could change anything about one of the forums, what would it be?
⚫It must be something within a moderators powers.
⚫It must adhere to iMtG law (http://imtgapp.com/forum/index.php?topic=160.0).
⚫It must not require anything be done on the client side

The purpose of this essay is to demonstrate what you bring to the community as a moderator, that you have a plan and desire to make a difference upon being selected.

I will be accepting essays until until MAY 15th, 2013. They are to be Private messaged to me (Dudecore). There is no word limit.
Essays will be judged on effectiveness, grammar and intent.

There will be CUTS on May 15th. The 4th phase will proceed with the eligible participants.

Round 2 - Questionnaire (May 1st - May 8th)
Round 3 - Improvement (May 8th - 15th)

Frequently Incorrect Questions

7. A member double posts in a foreign language in another person's topic. The incident is under your moderator jurisdiction. How will you handle?
A.   Give a warning not to spam or double-post and advise the member to post in English language.
B.   Ban the member immediately.
C.   Threaten the member until he cries.
D.   None of the above. Please Explain.

The correct answer is D. The write in along the lines of "Warn the user, delete the extra post." But informing someone speaking a different language that they're to post in English is incorrect. Freedom of speech is important.

8. There are quite a few numbers when playing Magic, and sometimes things can get pretty complex. Faerie Swarm is a blue creature whose power and toughness are both equal to the number of blue permanents you control. If you have ten basic islands, three blue creatures (including Faerie Swarm) and two blue enchantments in play and have already played a blue spell in the same turn, what would Faerie Swarm's power and toughness be?
A.   15
B.   16
C.   6
D.   5

The correct answer is D. The real thing here is knowing what a "permanent" is and what is colored, and what is colorless. Permanents are all cards that stay in play, such as lands, creatures, artifacts, and enchantments, but not sorceries or instants. Thus, we do not include spells played for this calculation. Next, we need to know what is colored. The general definition of an artifact used to be "non-land colourless permanent", though that changed with the Shards of Alara expansion (released September 27, 2008). Lands are colorless even if they provide colored mana and are not counted when adding up colored permanents.

13. A user is trolling other members Karma. What is the best solution?
A.   Give the troll negative karma and walk away.
B.   Advise the victim to contact his local law enforcement.
C.   Gather more information on the matter, and submit it to Piotr.
D.   None of the above. Please Explain

The correct answer is D. Points were given for being on a correct logical path. "A well written private statement asking why they're doing it, and reminding them to observe the iMtG law and to be here because you want to." Is considered a satisfactory answer. Bothering Piotr or other Moderators is incorrect.

17. When should you delete a topic?
A.   When it may cause controversy.
B.   It is never OK to delete a topic.
C.   The original poster requests it.
D.   Other. Please provide explanation.

The correct answer is B,C or D. It is essentially never OK to delete a thread. If it is active, and part of our public conversation then it cannot be deleted. However if it is a accidental double post and they request it be deleted, it can be done. If the poster is proven to be a liar, it may also be deleted against their will. Controversy is never grounds for thread deletion.

19. An ability that quite a few creatures in Magic share is First Strike. In the case of a battle between a {Deft Duelist}, a 2/1 with First Strike, and a {Bloodbraid Elf}, a 3/2, what would the outcome be?
A.   They would both live
B.   The Deft Duelist would die
C.   The Bloodbraid Elf would die
D.   The would both die

The correct answer is C. I never thought I'd see this many people get this question incorrect. It was a staggering number of applicants. Keyeto was nice enough to provide a Rules FAQ (http://imtgapp.com/forum/index.php?topic=20195.msg168321#msg168321), it should be read like the resource it is. In this particular case, the Deft Duelist's power (2) would be compared to the Bloodbraid Elf's toughness (2). This kills the Bloodbraid Elf before it can deal damage. If the Deft Duelist did not have First Strike, both creatures would have died.
