Title: Peasant combos
Post by: Birdbrain on May 07, 2013, 10:19:49 AM
I found out there's a peasant tournament in my town on July 7th were first prize is 300$, second prize is 100$, an third prize is 50$.

What are come kick but combos in {R} and {G} that only use commons/uncommon's (in peasant magic, your deck is limited to 5 uncommon's)

Is it a standard tournament?

What format is this tournament? Standard? Legacy? Modern? If all sets are open to use, you've got quite a few combos to pick from.

Are there any banned cards for this tournament that should be noted? Like {Channel} for example? Because {Channel} + {Fireball} is the ultimate R/G combo in my book, and both are uncommons. (Sort of. Channel was reprinted as a mythic in FTV: Exiled, and is listed as a rare in Masters)

{Paradise Mantle} + {Freed from the Real} on a {Zhur-Taa Druid} is an amusing new twist on killing people with mana.

The information on it is all in the link I provided. And channel isn't on the list. It looks like you can use any common/uncommon were they printed a rarity.

Oh Lordy. If you're allowed to use {Channel}... Or {Fastbond}... Or any of the other ridiculous broken cards that are banned in most formats... I wonder if they are considered in sets without a printed rarity? I forget when they started printing rarity.

Edit: Fastbond is a rare anyway, oops! Looks like they didn't add the rarity symbols until after 4th edition, so channel is probably a no-go :(

Yeah, Channel was a rare way back when.

Isn't this format called pauper?

Pauper is all commons.  Peasant is commons and uncommons.

If they follow the pauper rules for card rarity, you can play channel, it was printed as an uncommon in 4th

I think they didn't print rarity till Sixth Edition. So Alpha-Fifth and all the expansions during that time were not printed with rarity.

Could also make a good blood rush infect deck. Plenty of good common and uncommons with infect.

A buddy just whipped my casual groups butt last night. 4 player free for all.    {Paradise Mantle} on  {Blistercoil Weird} and then used  {Guttersnipe} when he could. Used a lot of 1 mana draw cards like  {Ponder},  {Cloak of Feathers},  {Leap},  {Needle Drop}.. And so on..
