Title: Tree of Redemption question
Post by: DementionX on May 03, 2013, 11:19:36 AM
I have a feeling this might be stupid but does the card return to its original toughness after using it's effect?

{Tree of Redemption}

Until modified by another effect (or its own) its toughness will remain as your former life total. Otherwise, it would say "Until end of turn" or something similar.

How does the tree work with auras such as  {Unflinching Courage}.

Your life total would become the "buff"ed toughness of the {tree of redemption}. If you {giant growth} it than, during that turn, activated its ability, your life total would become 16.

I understand where you're going with the giant growth. Question:  if you have 3 life {giant growth} the  {Tree of Redemption}, then activate its ability. You now have 16 life and the tree is a 3/3. Does the tree die at the end of the turn when giant growth fades?  (Or otherwise permanently lose 3 toughness if you start with more than 3 life)

The tree wouldn't be a 3/3, it would be a 3/6.

Ok. Would you then be at 13 life and not 16 because the buff from giant growth doesn't transfer?

You'll be at 16. The tree's ability will see it has 16 toughness, and make your life total 16, and the tree's toughness 3. The buff stays on the tree, and makes it a 3/6.

How does the tree work with auras such as  {Unflinching Courage}.

Using this method, in my infinite mana defenders deck I can produce an infinite lifegain combo.
I use  {Galvanic Alchemist}. One paired with the  {Axebane Guardian} for the infinite mana combo and one paired with the tree that has been equipped with  {Mask of Avacyn}

How is that infinite life gain?

How is that infinite life gain?

Mask gives a permenent +1/+2
Tree is 0/15 (13+2)
Life is 20
Tap tree:
Tree is now 22 (20+2) and life is 15
Untap tree with {Galvanic Alchemist} (paid with infinite mana combo)

Tap tree:
Tree is now 17 (15+2) and life is 22

Untap tree... Etc.

Ok, thx.
So if you weren't playing standard, there be a nice spot for a {slagwurm armor} with that combo. Sweet.

Quite possibly, though once you can pull it off it doesnt really matter how big the buff is, you just repeat it inifinte times.
I do like the fact that the mask also gives hexproof, allowing it to give some protection until you can pull off the combo.

Also the green ring that adds +1/+1 counters will do the same thing. Any buff will do the trick. the permenent ones just allow for more shenanigans.
