So being a new magic player I was immediately drawn towards the extort mechanic
Slowly sapping your opponent of their life as you exile and counter their attempts to attack?
Sounds good to me!
I'm buying the starter deck "Orzhov Oppression" from the Gatecrash set. As well as a "Dragon Maze" booster pack. And am wondering some suggestions to make the deck good enough to beat oh idk. An instant damage Rakdos deck?
First question you should ask yourself: Do I want to make competitive deck for FNM events and tournaments or do I want to play it casual?
If you are up to create competetive deck then pure extort deck is not viable because of agrro trends in most of playgroups..
Of course there is always an option how to make a compromise.
Personal I like casual gameplay, exposes yourself to a lot of questions and learn in the process. I have my own extort deck that I built on my own, and constantly improving it.
Extort is the most cordial way to slowly win an EDH game
Just remember to have multiples in play.A ton of Extort cards can be BRUTAL.
{Pontiff of Blight}!
Here's an infinite extort combo
An extort card + {carnival of souls} + {grave crawler} + {phyrixan alter}
The life gain from extort balances out the carnival
It will mainly be used for games at my school lunch table
Seeing as it will take me awhile to make good enough money to get some real cards I'm looking for some cheap ways to improve the deck to make it able to stand against the dragon maze extort deck as well as a rakdos
I understand that may be a little far fetched but any help anyone can give me is welcome
You will need a few good drops,some may include:
{Dutiful Thrull}
{Daring Skyjek}
{Kingpin's Pet}
{Syndic of Tithes}
{Basilica Screecher}
andn {War Falcon}.
So I now have my deck. And I'm looking for a few tweaks and such.
By the way what is a good balanced mana amount for a white black

{Pontiff of Blight}!
This would be an excellent card. However almost all of my creatures are already equipped with the extort ability.
And imo, a great extort deck in standard usually should have the other infinite combo, {Vizkopa Guildmage} + {Exquisite Blood} + anything with extort.
I agree with Slenderbro. I'm also new to magic...ish. I found that combo and thought to myself 'this must be cheating'. But I found my first infinite combo with the guild Mage and exquisite blood! My brother was quite proud of me. :)
Sanguine bond+ exquisite blood
Does this like infinitely bounce off each other and make you win?
{Exquisite Blood}
{Sanguine Bond}
Yes unless {platinum angel} is in play under their control in which case a draw is forced dues to a never ending effect.
Well then I need these two cards. Immediately.
