Title: How will DGM affect competative decks?
Post by: Hunteroffire9 on May 01, 2013, 07:17:27 PM

I really don't think it's going to change a whole lot at all, we might end up seeing a few new ideas but most of the decks are going to be variations of what's already been dominating standard

I am not overly excited by it.  There are a couple of commons I like (the B/W vampire and the G/R mana guy),  but that is it.  The big rates are pretty expensive to get out there, and the game is so fast right now that  don't see it changin the game that much.  Besides, there are no new mechanics, they were all in the previous two sets.

This is because Avacyn Restored was a full sized set. Dragons Maze was not.

But Avacyns did have a lot of ridiculously powerful cards, that's why most of the commons in the set were extremely shitty!

The biggest advancement in DGM /gatecrash was extort  the most annoying spell ever

I think as soon as we see Core 13 and see the future of standard we can see how DGM will affect it. Right now everyone is comfy with the staples from the current block, but once some of those rotate out we will see some differences.

Extort is totally annoying too.

Jund will see {Putrefy} in the place of {Murder}. {Master of Cruelties} will be a thing. {Ral Zarek} will become part of a deck somewhere, or be an expensive {Lightning Bolt}.

Dragon's Maze basically makes what we've already seen become slight bit better. I don't know that it is going to spawn a bunch of new archetypes.

Moderate upgrades all around. My Esper deck has {Far // Away} in place of {Devour Flesh} (don't mine spending the extra mana to {Diabolic Edict} if I can also have access to {unsummon}). {Renounce the Guilds} hits planeswalkers, {Master of Cruelties}, {Geist of Saint Traft}, {Falkenrath Aristocrat}, {Voice of Resurgence} and {Sire of Insanity}.
