Title: Azorius charm
Post by: Birdbrain on April 28, 2013, 06:39:38 PM
Can you {azorius charm} something like your own attacking {azorius justiciar} and still have it deal combat damage? Or would you have to wait until its blocked to make use of this trick?

An attacking creature that is removed from combat is no longer considered an attacking creature. Because of this, it will not deal any combat damage.

ah. So it would have to block or be blocked for this to work than. Thank you

No problem! If a creature is not present during the beginning of the Combat Damage step, it cannot deal any combat damage. Simple as that!

If you block with a creature and remove it from combat, you would not take damage. A blocked creature is considered blocked (despite what the battlefield says) and unless the blocked creature has trample, will not deal any damage.

If a creature blocks/is blocked, and then is removed from the battlefield, the blocked creature is still considered 'blocked' and will deal no combat damage to the defending player. For all functional purposes, if the blocker is removed from the battlefield, it will be replaced by a 0/0 blocker. For example, if the attacker has trample, all damage will go through(as if blocked by 0 toughness) but otherwise all damage will be dealt to the 0/0 creature. However there is no literal 0/0 creature, its just how i explain it

There's {clone}. You can choose to play him unmorphed. Notice the wording "may enter the battlefield as a copy of target creature."

I mean for the purpose of my explanation. Im saying that a removed blocker is not LITERALLY replaced by a 0/0, but thats how damage is treated; as if the attacker was blocked by a 0/0.

I know. I was just pointing out you could technically play a 0/0 creature

You could but it would immediately go to the graveyard.

Then it wouldn't be 0/0

True, though you can infinite reflection him to make all your creatures clones, and enter the battlefield as copies of the opponents creature
