Title: Double strike blocked
Post by: Malleo on April 28, 2013, 12:41:40 PM
If a double strike is blocked and its first damage phase would kill the blocker, does the damage from the second phase go through?

No, all damage is dealt to the creature. If the creature is killed in the first strike damage phase, the double-striker is essentially being blocked by a 0/0 creature

No I was thinking the exact same thing yesterday. If the first lot of damage is to kill the creature that's blocking you then there will be no damage next part of the current combat phase from the double striking creature.

I thought damage was still dealt, because double strike+trample has all the main combat damage phase go through.

A double strike creature that kills the defending creature during first strike damage and DOESN'T have trample will NOT deal damage to the player.

Yes i know, but will it deal damage to the creature still? A 5/5 with double strike blocked by {boros reckoner}, does boros take 5 or 10?

In this case only 5. Reckoner is no longer around to receive the other 5 from normal combat damage step
