What is karma
It's basically the reflection of how much the community likes (or dislikes) your posts. Once you get to 100 posts, you have the option to like (+1 karma) or dislike (-1 karma) a post.

Come to think of it, you can essentially think of it as "reputation".

Come to think of it, "reputation" is too long if we want to rename. Esteem?

Maybe, but esteem makes me think of, well self esteem. An that seems more of a personal thing than a reputation with the community. We could just shorten it to "Rep." or something. I like karma though ;)
