I remember that my friend played magic and I was interested because of the pictures so I asked him to bring his decks over so we could play the first duel of many...
My dad had big boxes of cards in our basement. At some point he got them out and showed me half an hr later I'm on my first game. Ta-da!
My friend showed my and had me watch and learn, against my sisters wishes

Which Wally world? Were you working in Walla walla Washington. Or was it elsewhere?
My babysitter taught me. I was like "hell no!!! This is soooo nerdy!" Now look at me now, super nerd! (not only mtg)
I learned at summer camp
I was chilling with my friend and he had some Mirrodin precons sitting on the table and I asked him what it was, and he said wanna play? I played Yu-Gi-Oh when I was younger so I said sure. He did a real trial by fire, whooped my ass about 4 times then I finally got the hang of it and lost a little more valiantly. After that I was addicted. Magic. Not even once. Lol
A buddy of mine brought his to school one day and I was hooked, still have the first 4th Edition box I bought...
Mate at college, was playing at lunch and I ask what it was, and he told me, and asked which color I liked, I sad black, so he gave me loads of black cards to play with never looked back since lol
My sisters bf played, and he had a few casual decks. One night he asked if I could help him test a deck and I said sure if he would teach me. I know now more about the rules than he ever might have, he played terribly so that he always won, changing rules to favor him. Since my sister dumped him I actually bought my own cards, and I've been playing since AVR
My friends, my brother, and I have always been into nerd gaming. We'd been dorking it up with D&D and video games since we were about 12. Nowin our late 20's, we aren't able to get together as often and do such detailed and planned-out gatherings like d&d anymore, and my brother stumbled upon magic somehow. He introduced me and our friends to mtg knowing it was up out alley, and better fit out play-and-go, no-planning-neccessary "grown-up" (If you can really call is that) lifestyle.

Nice! So you guys are more or less the original intended audience for Magic.
I've been wanting to get into D&D so bad, but lack the time. Two of my bandmates play it and it sounds amazing.
It is a lot of fun, but it's so time consuming. But just like mtg, when you play with the right friends, hilarity ensues.

The laughter that this caused was perhaps more than necessary, sir. Thanks for the chuckle/mental image.

Odd name, eh? It's the name of an Indian tribe that lived here years ago and incidentally, it IS where I learned to play the game. Another tidbit of trivia: it's also where the creator of mtg lived when he published the game.
My cousin got me into it i started 3 days after the original ravnica set came out and i remember drafting it and just picking rares and having the worst deck ever

I playeda couple times with my friends, but it just takes way too long to set up
I played with my brothers friends, my friends and I started to play together, after one figured out his bro played a long, LONG time ago. I built him a good reanimator deck because he had almost 20 {animate dead}s. Then we got another friend interested, after we figured out his brothe currently played. We all played a huge commander game, then their intrest dwindled. And only I was left. My friend is starting to get back in :)
Started in high school. Someone sold me some cards for like 20$ which got stolen. Quit until guildpact. Played until the 3 lorwyn set. Quit again, then started again a compile months after RtR's release
I actually used to play most tcgs, but made fun of magic players. Till last year when I sat down and played a game, super hooked now lol
