Title: Trends
Post by: FlickerYourOwnIdentity on April 09, 2013, 11:31:29 PM
Let's talk about trends.

You know the stupid ones, like ones found on the Internet, or started around some place, then increased to practically the world.  Maybe I'll suggest a topic to get the ball rolling.

"The Knife Game"

For those of you who don't know what this is, look it up on YouTube, and look at the youtubers react video.

Girls. That show is NOT GOOD. Lena Dunham seems like she's trying waaayyyy too hard to fit into the stereotypical "hipster moves to NYC and is broke" archetype.

The thing about "Girls" is they don't appear to have any reason to be friends. They are just myopic in their view of life, and seem to get no enjoyment out of anything - like a true hipster.

Man, the hipster moves to NY and is broke archetype is so old hat. At least they could mix it up and use the hipster moves to NY and is broke and undead twist or perhaps  the hipster moves to NY and is broke and gay or the hipster moves to NY and is broke and republican. So many untapped options.

Obviously this is an unfamiliar plot for me...am I correct in giggling at this "archetype"... or were you serious?

Well maybe calling it an "archetype" was a bit of a stretch, but it is becoming a thing. I know six peers alone that have moved to NYC, and its apparently happening all over.

Moving to NYC, Portland, Austin, and LA seem to be the popular moves. But its always been like that, I suppose. And for good reason. Things happen in those cities. Its when people capitalize on it (like Lena Dunham) that's annoying. Especially when people eat it up like they do Girls.
