First post here, be kind on me ;)
I have {Ivy Lane Denizen} and {Garruk's Packleader} in play.
Suppose I cast shambleshark, a 2/1 blue/green creature. Can I put the counter on the shark, and since it is a 3/2, to draw a card from packleader's ability?
Unfortunately, no. It enters the battlefield with 2 power, and THEN gets pumped up. If it entered the battlefield with the +1/+1 counter (due to {Zameck Guildmage} perhaps) then it would be different.
Congrats on your first post! Welcome to iMtG!

Hmmm I did read another similar post which says I can decide the order which the continuous effects trigger. If I place packleader's first and ivy lane second, LIFO ivy lane resolves first to put counter then packleader's?
They're both "enter the battlefield" triggers. They go off once. Once the Denizen's ability puts a counter on the creature, it's too late for the Packleader's ability to trigger. It has to have power 3 or greater upon entry.
I think I got it. The one I read was pertaining to "beginning of upkeep" triggers.

The important thing to note here is that the Packleader's trigger never even goes off. When you play your 2/1, it enters the battlefield as a 2/1, then you put the +1/+1 counter in it. The Packleader's ability only checks to see the creatures power when it entered the battlefield. Note the wording on cards such as {Zameck Guildmage} or {Apocalypse Hydra} compared to the {Ivy Lane Denizen}. It's no mistake; the first two enter WITH the counter(s) already on them, whereas the Denizen puts the counter on it after it enters the battlefield. Hopefully that clears things up for you!
Ah! It is that subtle! Thanks!!
