I don't have a lot of money to spend on a modern deck but I want to be able to play at a modern fnm and win. Is there any decks that are cheap to make but that can also beat a top ter deck also? Any help would be great. Also, just so everyone knows, my budget would have to stay under 200 in total
I've learned that generally a mono colour deck is ur cheapest bet. Lots of basic lands saves money.
Infect, soul sisters, mono red burn/rdw, and death & taxes are the first decks that come to mind.
RDW.
Soul sisters is sooo fun to play with. Its around $100

Yep - the sisters deck I posted a couple of days ago in modern here is average price $130 as is... Could do with a couple more {Serra Ascendant} at about $10 each, but for that $ it's huuuuuge amounts of fun.
Eggs is fairly cheap.

Why will everyone hate me? Why is eggs so hated?
It's an entirely uninteractive deck that involves a 15 minute turn to win.
It basically is this: Turn 1, Chromatic Star. Turn 2, Reshape into Lotus Bloom, and 15 minutes later win with Pyrite Spellmomb.

Stanislav Cifka, that's why (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZDaM4VpSBk)
It's boring for the other player. Playing it and winning takes major skill and practice, but to the ill informed bystander it's completely boring.
Even to the informed bystander its awful. Its just a waste of life, if i was told id be playing eggs id jus forfeit the win...

Haha I watched the video. That deck looks sooo fun to play. I totally want to build it now! Sorry if u guys think me a douche for liking that type of deck but that is compleatly my play style. Sorry guys don't hate me please lol
Look up Wierdstorm Combo deck. Same play style, but cheaper and less likely to be sideboarded against since it is unknown.

Hehe but it is so fun to play it...:D
How? All it is is counting in your head... It seems like a lot of excess work

Because it is not just about tapping for mana and playing a card.
It is.. You really have to know what and when to play... It must be same annoying for opponent like elves in Legacy...:D
It is fun because of the spirit of deck itself... You are able to bore opponent to death...:D
Zoo might be a good choice. Except for the two planeswalkers you might need, everything else is pretty inexpensive

zoo kinda has a land matters theme. So you could replace {tarmogoyf} with {rubble hulk}

So because the opponent is going to be bored means that the person shouldn't play a deck?

Mhmm and fetches are not exactly cheap...;) with multi coloured deck you cannot play without fetches in modern... Ok you can but it will not be competitive enough...

{rampant growth} is cheap, and thins your deck so you have a better chance of drawing the cards you want. Also, {congregation at dawn} is a cheap creature fetch
{commune with nature} is an excellent creature fetch card as well
And {rubble hulk} might be a good replacement for {tarmogoyf}
And if you have {tarmogoyf}, then a card which can support him is {beast hunt}
Sorry but {Rampant Growth} can never make the same job as fetchland...;) you cannot fetch shocklands with rampant and what is more important it cost you {1}{G}...
Edit: And besides with rampant fetched lands come tapped... You have no time in modern to play turn 2 rampant growth for tapped 3 land...
If you want to get into modern brewing is your best bet at a cheap deck you can brew up a deck of any of the mono colored decks like mono green would be good for a elf deck, mono white you could build a white weenie deck, mono red has burn which is super cheap, mono black as control and mono blue has {Talrand, Sky Summoner} lol
Actually. A friend of mine has been running a very strong, not pro level competitive, reanimator deck with Innistrad and M10 duel lands, running 4 evolving wilds.
Ok than. Everything I said except rampant than

true. Although it might not evolve more than once or twice in zoo

Thats all it really needs
{Quirion Dryad} is a better card than Gyre Sage in my opinion since it speeds up pretty quickly and Naya Zoo is the stronger of the three competitive versions anyways.

anyone have this card there willing to trade or let me buy?
I have 1
Why have I not seen {Farseek} in here, it may not be a fetch land but it's {Rampant Growth} for shocks.
Bcs still u have to pay 2 mana for land that comes tapped...
In modern agrro u need to be much quicker...;)
