Title: Spellskite
Post by: Stoneco1d869 on April 01, 2013, 06:02:48 AM
Can anyone explain how to use {Spellskite} properly?

Especially how he works concerning targets that not normally would not target him. Such as diverting a  {Go for the Throat} to him.

Maybe this thread can help you:

http://imtgapp.com/forum/index.php?topic=18768.msg155511#msg155511

In that thread they explain that it must be a legal target when you are activating the ability.

Best,

Rhazor

Just to make sure everything is clear, here's a ruling to reinforce Rhazor's redirection. Keep this Rule in mind:

114.6a If an effect allows a player to "change the target(s)" of a spell or ability, each target can be changed only to another legal target. If a target can't be changed to another legal target, the original target is unchanged, even if the original target is itself illegal by then. If all the targets aren't changed to other legal targets, none of them are changed.

And +1 to Rhazor, for showing me that people actually use the search function.

Thanks Keyeto! Much appreciated!

That is kind of how I saw him, but so many people value him highly and I guess I don't quite see it...

They {Giant Growth} their guy; you pay {U} to basically counter it. They drop  {Zealous Conscripts} to take your planeswalker that's ready to ult; you pay a measly 2 life or {U} to give them Spellskite instead. They try to buff their {Geist of Saint Traft} with {Spectral Flight} or any Aura; you say "thanks for the buff."

It's pretty much endless shenanigans.

So it can steal an Aura? Never thought of that. Thanks!

Those have to target spells, so Spellskite is not a legal target.

Ones that enchant creatures or artifacts, yes. Others (e.g. {Underworld Connections}) can't be stolen because Spellskite is an illegal target (unless you make it a .ground. somehow).

And no problem.

In addition to everything mentioned above, its 4 toughness also allows it absorb a {lightning bolt} for you or another one of your creatures and live through the experience, protecting you from a plethora of red damage-based removal. It can also protect one of your more important creatures from any single target removal, even {terminate}...once ;)

Spellskite is a very versitile little fellow.

A fantastic trick with  {Spellskite} is when you equip it with  {Ring of Evos Isle} redirect the kill spell, before it resolves, make it hexproof. Was a legal target when redirecting then an illegal target once made hexproof.
The stack is a beautiful thing.
