Title: Magic question on spiteful shadows
Post by: ibtrickey on March 31, 2013, 10:59:24 PM
I am wondering how this card works??? {Spiteful Shadows} like what counts as damage to a creature? Do -1/-1 counters count as damage??

By blocking, being blocked, direct damage spell {shock}, fighting.
A card like {tragic slip} does not count as damage. Nor do cards that place -1/1 counters (none come to mind)

Infect deals damage in the form of-1/-1 counters

It would apply to spiteful shadows because of the sequence below.

119.4. Damage is processed in a three-part
sequence.

119.4a First, damage is dealt, as modified by replacement and prevention effects that interact with damage. (See rule 614, "Replacement Effects," and rule 615, "Prevention Effects.") Abilities that trigger when damage is dealt trigger now and wait to be put on the stack.

119.4b Next, damage that's been dealt is transformed into its results, as modified by replacement effects that interact with those results (such as life loss or counters).

119.4c Finally, the damage event occurs.
