Title: Fight & death touch
Post by: Hamstar on March 27, 2013, 07:58:13 AM
Hello, does fight ignore all static abilities (death touch, first strike, etc)?

No. If a flier were to attack and another flier with deathtouch blocks it, then both die (assuming the original had enough power)
Also first strike on a flier blocked by a deathtouch flier would kill the deathtouch before.

Not flight, the action "fight" from innistrad. The 2 creatures fighting deal damage equal to their power to the other, but would static abilities like death touch be taken into account. Like if I use {ulvenwald tracker} to make {vampire nighthawk} fight {restoration angel} would they both die and would you gain the life?

Yes. The definition of fight is the creatures deal damage. The definition of deathtouch is when this deals damage, the damage is enough to destroy it. Lifelink is whenever it deals damage you gain that much life.

Since the creatures are dealing the damage, the result is two dead creatures and two life for the vampire's controller.

Sorry for misreading earlier.

Those don't work again look at the wording of fight and first strike. It ends up not working

Sorry I'm horrible at explaining

First strike and double strike only mean they deal combat damage during the first-strike damage phase of combat. Since {prey upon} type fighting is non-combat and does not involve damage phases, these keywords are irrelevant. They do still deal damage to each other, so keywords pertaining to damage dealt such as lifelink and deathtouch do still apply.

Hope that clarifies things!

Are you guys 100% sure first strike and fight dont work? I think it does brian kibler had an  {Ulvenwald Tracker} make a fight between  {Thalia, Guardian of Thraben} and  {Experiment One} evolved once and thalia won the fight

701.10d The damage dealt when a creature fights isn't combat damage.

702.7a First strike is a static ability that modifies the rules for the combat damage step.

So no, first/double strike and fight do not interact.

100% sure. Whoever told you Thalia would win was dead wrong. Both creatures would die in this scenario. See the above official rules posted by memento and all the above posts for why.
