Hello!
I have always been a big user for iMTG. If i didnt have it... well then i would have to use another app right?
iMTG has alway shined for me.
But i do have a couple questions.
I am currently trying to find a way to take inventory of my collection.
I would say i have 10,000+ Cards. I've attempted to use an excel spreadsheet... Type the name, tab to the next cell and add quantity. But that was very tedious when you found another double 100 cards after that one. Sometimes i would double enter the name... other times i would remember and scroll clear back to it, and add another to the quantity.
I also tried using MTGVault's website, for deck building. They use a Bulk upload method that uses a word format that would let me avoid the double entrys.
Mountainx20
forestx20
mountainx1
Would give me what i was looking for after i hit go. It would list the mountains as 21.
Well... i then found that that was tedious.. typeing all of those names over and over. So i began looking for another way.
I came across the scan feature in your app... and i have scanned at yardsales, scanned at home, for the easy pricing. (very nice btw, love it)
But i was wondering if it is efficient/effective, to take inventory using iMTG or if anybody knows a better, quick way of taking inventory.
I was just planning on setting the ipod on some sort of stand, just the perfect distance to scan the cards so that i could quickly slip a card under hit scan, add to a trade folder and repeat.
My main goal is a way to take inventory, possibly having pricing, and the MAIN thing, is to be able to view it online, so i can link it on my sale sites.
Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
to tell the truth.... i have no idea what cards i have, and dont have.... lol
and on that note... i couldn't even imagine having a collection that has been built since 93.... that would be insane..
You need to organise the cards in reality first, then go through the same filtering in cardlists in iMtG, in landscape mode. I think it's the most efficient way at the moment, but I might be wrong. There are people on here who have inputted tens of thousands, I know BJ did, maybe you will get some advice from them. On my TODO I have an automatic machine which you will be able to load with stacked cards and which will scan them for you. You won't be able to afford it unless you are a biggish single store. I'm just waiting for the right investor to pull that off ;)
haha i wish that they had something like that on the market. I dont think i would ever pay more than $100 as a private owner though. If i had owned a store... maybe $500? max? idk. I buy collections from people for resale, and trying to sort/take inventory is a pain.
But using your methods..
How do you sort irl?
I've only ever sorted by color. Should i do any more than that? =)
By expansion, by rarity. Whatever you fancy. Then you sort it by name and use the very same sorting in iMtG. Then you just flick and mark, flick and mark, man :D
Hi there!
Watch out with the amount of cards you input in your Trade Binder. Once I got over aprox. 12k cards, my personal page inside the forum stop working.
I can see Tradings in iMTG, but I cannot see my personal page anymore (nor I can't refer anyone to see it either).
I hope Piotr and his team will solve this soon.
Best,
Rhazor
thanks for the heads up Rhazor

Unlikely, for two reasons, first an acceptable workaround exists: split your collection into smaller binders. Makes them quicker too, I think. Second, there's no team.
Third: if you have 10000+ cards worth having online for trade, you will come to me with a business proposal, rather than expecting me to host it for you for free. Fair enough?
As a kind suggestion, I think I can reveal that I have no exclusivity agreement signed with TCGplayer nor Magic Traders. Feel free to tempt me to add your prices to iMtG.

I have to confess, I'm a little shocked with this comment.
1st: I think I've always been very respectful with my tone in the forum. I expect the same from the rest of the users/administrators.
2nd: I have a huge collection. Is it really worth for a "business proposal" or for good online trade? Not at all for the first part of the question, probably not for the second. Nevertheless, I want to try and have all the possible chances to trade. If some of my 0,04€ oldies are interesting for a collector somewhere in the world, I want that collector to have the chance to find them.
My +14k collection seems to be worth between 300 and 1000 €. Is that enough to make good business? I doubt it.
3rd: expect you to host my collection for free... well, I payed for all the add-ons knowing that I have a lot of binders (17 so far) and with the intention to try and trade with the rest of the world.
I also have a lot of decks (22 for the time being). Most of them are rubish (as you will see in the different formats of the decks forums), but I like inputing them in iMTG and sharing them so other people can give/get ideas. That was the other reason to buy the whole pack.
So, no, I don't expect you to host it for free, I just expect the program to allow me to do one of the things I expected it to do... is this asking for too much?

Second, there's no team.
Sorry I thought there was a team. In the iMTG about page (imtgapp.com/legal.html) I read "iMtG Gathering forum is run by BlackJester and Spikepit on a pro publico bono basis.".
I thought this could be considered a team. My fault.

Will try this once there's a fast and safe way to transfer parts of the binders to other binders (keeping the quantity and the characteristics of the cards) in a, more or less, automated way (not unchecking the amount of cards you have in one binder and adding that number to the other binder for each different card you want to move, I mean...).
Thanks for the tip. I'll let you know if it works when I try it.

1st: It wasn't my intent to come across as not respectful, on the contrary.
2nd: Agreed.
3rd: Yes it is asking too much. Did you not see that iMtG All excludes monthly iMtG Server fee? Hosting your binders on the Internet is not part of iMtG All. Makes sense?

So, if I understood it correctly, if I pay the iMtG server, I could then see my "Personal Page" with my 14k cards? I wouldn't have to split the Trade binder into smaller ones?
I never read anything related on the iMtG server explanation in the forum. I thought it was more related to Patroning, having a direct access to your Personal Page and being able to be emailed when replied in the forum or when you receive a PM...
Yea i just bought the All Pack last night, and saw the server thing. Could we get a better explanation to what you meant? i was rather confused.. lol

I'm simply pointing out that hosting your collection is not part of what you paid for when you purchased iMtG All. The description of iMtG All which is being forced upon you by Apple App Store before you enter into agreement with them, is this: "Unlock everything, now and forever. Includes all future modules but excludes monthly iMtG Server access fee." Hosting is not a function of iMtG All, posting it to iMtG Server is neither because posting is free.
The functions of iMtG Server do not include hosting, indeed. Assuming my previous statements to be true, that would mean that you are receiving the hosting as a kind of free gift. It is because I enjoy giving gifts to my customers, within reason. At this stage of iMtG's growth I consider free hosting of big volume and low value collections, to be unreasonably taxing on my resources, even if you become a Patron. Fair enough?
Oh i c. i misunderstood it to be an "extra" service we had to purchase.
I'll tell ya what though... If i get enough use out of it, i will surely donate. =)
I love helping out with Game mod devs, so why not help out an app dev?
I'm going to give all this a shot tomorrow. Wish me luck! =P

Also, a bug ;)
