Title: Home brews
Post by: MisterJH on March 26, 2013, 02:11:50 PM
I only home brew, and i want to start FNM. How do you make home brews achieve theyre goal? What is the secret to picking a theme and ensuring you achieve it? Basically whats the logic behind deckbuilding that i could transfer to my home brews

I usually homebrew as well. What I do is I think of what I want the deck to do. Then I ask what color(s) would be the best for my idea. Next, playtest playtest playtest! You've gotta see what works with what and what you're weak against. My favorite all time combo was with my homebrew junk tokens where I had a decent sized {Champion of Lambholt} on the field then play  {Fungal Sprouting} with  {Parallel Lives}, it always made people worry. You've gotta be patient, though, odds are your deck isn't going to be perfect right off the bat, just keep with it!

I think it is all about finding how you wnt to win and building around that.  Play testing and refining may be what you are doing initially at FNM, as well as learning the local meta and how to adjust for it.  And more power to you for not netdecking, it takes more guts to do it this way.
