Title: Best mono color for competitive play?
Post by: Pete on March 26, 2013, 01:08:56 AM
I was wondering what's the best mono color to play competitively. I'm also on a slight budget. Any help is appriciated!

Probably Black, but a guy plays mono green at my LGS and he actually does pretty well just by ramping mana and swarming with huge things

Either RDWs or my friend plays his mono-red goblins and is rather successful doing so

Friend of mine plays goblins as well with hellraiser goblin the loyalist krenko goblin arsonist and the denizen. Also hellrider and Reckoner. He splashes white for boros charm and slayers stronghold an so he can board blind obedience and warpriest of thune. It tops at fnm every week he just ends up getting tired and lazy towards the end and shuffles poorly lmao.

At our Fnm I play my mono black (finished 2nd a few times now) but last week I got done by a mono red agro creatures deck. Damn  {Hellrider}s and  {Pyreheart Wolf}s and such. Just too damn fast.

White Weenies is back again, turbo charged with {Boros Reckoner}. RDW is still a thing. I've seen green flash decks ({Yeva, Nature's Herald}, {Wolfir Silverheart}, {Wolfir Avenger}, {Thragtusk}, {Strangleroot Geist}, {Arbor Elf}, ect) but its mostly for people who can't afford {Huntmaster of the Fells} or Shocklands.

Dude I am quite convinced that mono green decks are more than suitable for competitive plays...;) Played by people not only bcs of they would not have money cards...

Sorry to oposing you but I really do love green decks...

Anyway I totaly agree with RDW and Goblin swarm decks... Lately I play goblins for fun and they are so great... With new goblins from gtc... I can post my decklist if requested...;)

For the most part I've only played mono blue and mono white. So any deck list would be awesome. Thanks!

Mono-green for budget I'd say. RDW (Essentially Mono-red) is also very good but a little more expensive. Mono Black is amazing, it's what I've been playing, but it's the most expensive if you're going for the Splash {R} build.

Could anyone list some staples for the different monocolors? Im trying to be thrifty and still win something at fnms to make it worthwhile

I would go with RDW. It typically has a turn 4 win and most of the prices have gone down due to {Hellrider} being in a duel deck and cards like {Stromkirk Noble} and {Ash Zealot} in event decks. You could go into more expensive territory with {Thundermaw Hellkite} and {Boros Reckoner} but my deck worked fine without them.

Out of all of them? White Weenies is perfect to buy low on. You can get {Elite Inquisitor}. {Champion of the Parish}, {Boros Elite}, {Gather the Townsfolk}, {Silverblade Paladin}, {Thalia, Guardian of Thraben} at ultimately low prices.

I don't know enough about RDW to comment.
I know about Green Flash because I've beaten it a billion times, but it does look like fun and puts up a fight.
