I need something that is modern, {W}, and is good for making sure my oponent cant turn 3 me with double strikes, buffs and/or infect damage.
{Judge's familiar} as it can also act as a counter.
{Order of the Stars} is probably your best bet.
{Gold meadow harrier} and {Gideon's law keeper} are good at handling big annoyances. Also {student of warfare} can keep pretty good pace with buffed up creatures.
Oh and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe {doomed travelers} can keep double strikers at bay for a turn.
Ooh, i like {Doomed Traveler}. The lawkeeper is alright, but can't tap on their next attack phase.
{Goldenglow Moth} is good for that too.
The tap down guys are great when you are up against trample. The protection is great against first and double strike. The lifegain blocker is great against agro attackers.
All are quite susceptible to removal though. The protection guy possibly has the best chance in that regard.

Yeah, that's true. I always save 1 mana if there is something potentially dangerous on the board so at the beginning of their turn I can tap out one of their beasties.
