Just making sure I'm not cheating. When you play {contested war zone} and cards alike that say add one colorless mana can I use that to play a black card or do I have to wait for a swamp. Thanks in advance.
You can only use colorless mana to pay colorless mana costs. For an example: If you have 2 contested zones and 4 swamps, and want to play {Grave Titan}, you can use the colorless mana to pay its colorless manacost(4), and with the swamps you pay it's black manacost(2) and the remaining colorless(4-2=2 remaining colorless). Capice?

Long story short: For the purpose of MtG, Black is a colour, you'll wait for a Swamp. 😊
To add to that: colorless mana can be paid by any of the five mana colors or a colorless mana producing card
Anything that produces colorless mana can't be used to pay mana with the red, white, blue, black or green symbols, only for the gray numbered ones. Colored mana(any of them) can be used to pay either it's own color mana, or the gray ones. Any color mana can pay any color manacosts

Thanks for the help. I think I will find a dual land to replace {contested war zone}
