I was thinking of changing my dimir mill deck into this deck. Currectly working on acquiring some of the cards to complete it in paper. Anything that should be changed to make it better?
Nice build!
As for improvements I personally would run 3 {Terminus}s or {Supreme Verdict}s because of all the aggro decks in standard right now. Slamming down a {Vampire Nighthawk} post miracle Terminus can be a nightmare for some decks.
So
+3 Board Wipes
-3 {Essence Harvest}
As for Essence Harvest, its not a terrible card but its a inconstant life gain card most of the time. I would sideboard it.
{Essence Harvest} has won me a few games when paired with {Consuming Aberration}, people either don't see it coming or are prepared to use {Azorius Charm} when I swing in. But if I pull the 3x {Essence Harvest} for 3x board wipes, possibly 2x {Supreme Verdict} and 1x {Terminus}, I'm then thinking of pulling my {Cyclonic Rift} in favor of {Immortal Servitude}
I have updated the deck and added a sideboard to it, any suggestions on other additions or removals?
I have been play testing this deck with both myself using a jund aggro deck to go against, and my friend, who uses a red deck wins goblins deck. Both decks beat this deck the majority of the time, what should I change to help this deck stand a better chance against aggro decks
Slow them down with {Blind Obedience}
That was my thoughts too, just need to get my hands in it
I run with Lily of the veil, Lazav, Obzedat, Deathpact angel, jaces phantasm, tribute to hunger and detention spheres in my Esper mill.
{Psychic Spiral}? After you get a 15-20 cards in graveyard this is a bomb.
I have been working with this deck, and as it stands right now this is probably what I'm going to take to FNM tomorrow night. Any suggestions for it? Besides 2x {Blind Obedience} for the side which I've been working on getting my hands on.
Ended up 2-3 but pre matches I took out the {Grisly Spectacle} for the {Azorius Charm} and a {Dimir Charm}. Still not having any {Blind Obedience} for this hurts as my first 2 loses were to aggro decks. Other lose was a 1-2 match against a dimir mill deck. Managed to hit both the {Witchbane Orb} with the mill. However I had a {Psychic Spiral} in hand. When there was enough cards in my grave to ensure victory via flipping his deck over with spiral, he had enough mana for a {Psychic Strike} and one card in hand. I played a {Jace, Memory Adept} trying to hit the counter out of his hand so I could spiral the next turn. But he didn't. My next turn I cast spiral and he had top decked the counter. I ended up losing the game with him having 6 cards in his deck and mine being gone.
Thinking another thing to do is get 2x more {Azorius Charm} and some {Devour Flesh} to take the place of {Grisly Spectacle} permanently. Also removing the {Deathrite Shaman} for more wraths like 2x {Terminus}. Only creatures I'm thinking of keeping in there right now are the {Vampire Nighthawk}, going up to 4 of, losing all the rest of the creatures for either {Augur of Bolas} or {Snapcaster Mage} and more {Sphinx's Revelation}. Since when I'm siding, those creatures are usually the 1st ones I go to when I'm removing stuff.
Updated it with the cards I have as of now, need to make a few trades over the next week
This type of deck is the hardest match-up for my 5 color control because it is Wolf run Bant at it's core. However I have noticed that leaning heavily on {neophilia drownyard} and using EoT draw card on the turns you dont need to counter their spells is the most efficient. Then of course wrath when appropriate.
Going to be taking this deck to FNM this week. Any suggestions for me?
Drop {Duress} to SB and 2 {Terminus} in place IMO
I lost twice to esper mill decks at the last fnm. Some differences I see from your deck from theirs is:
{Snapcaster Mage} use your spells more than once.
{Augur of Bolas} digs for spells, and helps with agro
{Lingering Souls} chump blockers
{Restoration Angel} good blocker/attacker, and you can use your augur, and snapcaster again.
{Merciless Eviction} wipe whatever you want.
Deck list has been updated. Went 2-3 at FNM. The 3 losses were all really close instead of being blowouts like they had been before. When I get my hands on 2 {Terminus} they will replace the {Mind Grind} and the {Murder}. But until then, I don't quite know what to do. Every time I was playing tonight, I'd draw either of those cards and think to myself, "you know, being a miricled {Terminus} right now would be awesome."
I do have a {Tribute to Hunger} that I could put in in the place of the {Murder}
{Murder} I think Is the better choice unless either A.) your having trouble casting it due to the double black or B.) your having issues with your life. {Murder} let's you choose what you want from them which I personally think is a little better with so many big creatures out there. And it's probably just ,y luck but my {Tribute to Hunger} usually catch a spirit or human token lol
Updated the deck list. Would like to get my hands on 1 or 2 more {Terminus} and {Snapcaster Mage}. Don't really know what else to do any more. Might have to change my mana base. 4x {Godless Shrine} into 4x {Hallowed Fountain} since the deck currently has 39 blue sources and only 19 black. While only my 4x {Glacial Fortress} are the mana not providing black mana
Your not running enough land. For control decks you want 25+ most control decks are going to run 27. The reason being. It's very important for you to hit land drops almost every turn. Because you want to not only be able to cast something to control the board (either counter spell or removal) but you also want enough mana to be able to use some draw card to refill your hand. Plus playing {Sphinx's Revelation} the more lands you have available, the more cards/life your getting.
I am in the process of obtaining 2 more {Hallowed Fountain}, 1 or 2 more {Terminus}, and maybe another {Snapcaster Mage}. Just don't know what I would take out for them.
Updated decklist
I mention in all the Esper decks, I don't know why anyone is afraid of playing {Snapcaster Mage} lately. I haven't seen any matchups where it does not make any sense to run that card. I play 4-of and can't honestly understand why certain decks play 1-2of. If anyone has an explanation I'd be extremely happy to hear it.
Is it fear of running into {Rest in Peace}? Anyone running main board Snappy hate is doing it for {Unburial Rites}, then consequently they're not beating {Supreme Verdict} or {Sphinx's Revelation}.
I watch a lot of pros like LSV play, and he does the reduced Snap too. Everytime he drops a game, it seems like Snappy would have helped. The only logical thing I could see is that {Snapcaster} forces you to play a certain line, which reduces the effectiveness vs. knowledgable opponents.
I'm personably going to run him out until i see different results.
For me it is because I have been having troubles getting my hands on them. Just managed to get that one a week ago
Don't really know how good {Reap Intellect} is going to be, but updated deck list as it stands now
