If I have {Cloudfin Raptor} on the field and say 5 1/1 human tokens come into play at the same time will evolve trigger 5 times?
I think its like this:
You play 5 1/1s at the same time through a spell or something.
Evolve triggers 5 times. When they resolve they check the p/t of cloudfin vs the 1/1.
Each resolution after cloudfins p/t has gone above 1 it wont do anything.
RESOLVED
At the end of it all resolving it will only evolve once and be a 1/2
Ok thank you all this means I'm not putting in {Assemble the Legion} to try and uber pump my creatures

Is this really how the mechanic works?
It says if the toughness or power is lower, add a +1/+1 counter. I haven't noticed anything that specifies to add only the power/toughness when only one is lower

Since the entering creatures are 1/1 and the evolve creature is 0/1, only the first 1/1 creature trigger will result in a positive result, the rest will be neutral.

Triggers check once to put them onto the stack, then again upon resolution. After the first evolve trigger resolves, each subsequent one will check if the power or toughness is lower than the token before resolving. It isn't, and so is removed from the stack.
Agreed

Oh I should have clarified my question as: Does evolve affect both P/T? And it seems yes, I thought I had read in a thread somewhere that only the lowered stat was raised, not both

702.98. Evolve
702.98a Evolve is a triggered ability. "Evolve" means "Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, if that creature's power is greater than this creature's power and/or that creature's toughness is greater than this creature's toughness, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature."
702.99b If a creature has multiple instances of evolve, each triggers separately.
Remember to only compare power to power and toughness to toughness.
