Just got back into MtG recently, I quit years ago around the time of the Dark expansion. Killing myself over that lotus I sold for $200!
I was curious, with all of these expansions out now, what is the BEST EXPANSION?
I have been in Magic since revised and I can safely say that Scars of Mirrodin was great, purely for the change in tactics that Infect brought about.
But if I had to choose another, it would be Lorwyn/Shadowmoor.
My vote would be the onslaugt block... Goblins and g/w slide mono white was beastly as mono blue it was a great time when the format had tough agro tribes and the control was just crazy...
Scars of Mirrodin or Zendikar blocks.
Hrmmm. After posting, went out and bought a booster box of Zendikar. Sick set IMO.
Ravnica would be in my opinion. Debtor's Knell plus anything black/white in that set equals I get your dead creatures. There is nothing like beating your opponent with their own creatures. Sorry Im just evil like that. Lol
"Begins to dust topic"
Tempest block or Urza block had be the best. There were so many op cards in those two blocks.

Tempest is my favorite expansion. I loved the art and the cards were playable.
The first Mirrodin block. Hear me out- it wasn't the most amazing set to play, but flavor-wise I don't think any other set has come close (IMO) to making such a big impression on me. The utter alien-ness of it and originatility is just great. Although, an opponent playing a turn one {Skullclamp} always sucks. Always.
Second would be the Ravnica-Dissension-Guildpact expension, and this is a very close contender with my #1. Again, flavor was crazy good here, and the diverse spells and creature was absurdly awesome!
Urza
I have a huge love for Tempest. It has been my favorite since it came out.
Lorwyn/Shadowmoor. Only if i played since then :(

It was a ton of fun, that's right about when I started playing competetively

That's actually very plausible, people hated Kamigawa yet loved it at the same time, so we may be going back there. We're getting a new plane next block so we're going to have go wait a couple years to see what happens

Yep and hopefully this new plane is good

How do you know it's a new plane?
The pattern is new, old, new, old, new, old, etc. and last we returned to ravnica so next will be new nad i think multicolored
I love Innistrad and Kamigawa.
Revised got me into playing. Then new phyrexia I returned.
I started in Scars of Mirrodin so that's my favorit block ^,^
Gotta love original Ravnica, you got Bob and {Agrus Kos}.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned modern masters...
Does that count as an expansion since it's all reprints?

I wouldn't count it, its like Duel Decks, just odd cards slapped together.

Well then, I'm surprised that no ones mentioned alpha/beta/unlimited
No way! They were buggy as hell to play with! Cool at the time (mainly because we knew nothing else and there wasn't really anything else), but ridiculous as hell to wrap your head around (especially as a prepubescent boy in rural Australia!)
To tell you the truth,I liked the Time Spiral set since this set was crazy as heck.
I really like unhinged although I've never played it just the cards are fun.
Core sets, I think. They have monocoloured walkers, always good, then at least one money card. For m14, {Archangel of Thune}, {Kalonian Hydra}, and the two new walkers are up there.
Well, since I'm building an eldrazi deck I'd have to say "Rise of the Eldrazi". The story is sick and the creatures are awesome. The only card expansion with annihilator.
