So what are the opinions on the avatars in gatecrash. IMO they don't replace the titans, not even close.

I hate them.  It seems really catered to edh players.  It just makes it so non-edh players get a really jank rare.  :(

I got the black one in draft as a last card passed to me and surprisingly it worked out for me pretty well.

If they all were at a CMC of 6 they would be much better. Especially Sylvan. It would become an immediate answer to Thundermaw. Oh well.

They are designed for limited / commander for sure. I like them, because I'm a huge EDH player, and I love limited. But spike-type players are guaranteed to hate them - they will never see non-EDH constructed play.

MaRo said they were designed for commander. He also said that they design cards specifically for commander. One example is a silly card that only works in that format {skull rend}
