Title: Bouncing Creatures, Combat Damage Step
Post by: average_j03 on February 03, 2013, 10:27:32 PM
If my opponent hooded attackers and I use an  {Azorius Charm} or  {Unsummon} will the attack damage still go through? Or does i still have to block the creature being removed?

Combat damage does not use the stack, so assuming you remove the creature in whatever way before the combat damage step, either at the end of attack or declar blockers step, no combat damage will be assigned.

Is this true? Would trample still go through?

Nope! Not even a creature with trample thats been returned or unsummoned, will deal combat damage!

Thats what i thought, static effects dont go on the stack in general right? Deathtouch, trample, first strike etc all being static are a condition of combat damage, which does not use the stack. There is so ruling or condition to state that effects would/should change this.

I like to provide alternate conditions to contrast points made soo.. To be clear, although trample would bot go through, if {hellrider} were down, each attacking creature would still deal 1 damage, even if hellrider were bounced after attacking because the condition of attacking activates the ability, which uses the stack. So remember the difference OP, it will only protect you from direct combat damage
