Title: Clones, Copiable Characteristics
Post by: BrosEler123 on January 31, 2013, 02:55:26 PM
So if I have an  {Invisible Stalker} on the battlefield and then play  {Shadow Slice} and encode it onto invisible stalker. If I play  {Clone} and copy the invisible stalker does it get the encoded shdow slice too?

Nope :(. Think of encode as an enchantment... So when you {clone} an {invisible stalker} with {rancor} you do not get a 3/1 invisible stalker with trample, you get the 1/1 because the enchantment is adding the bonuses!

Read up on rule 706 for extensive info on copying things.

Along the same lines, if I take control of an ooponents creature that has an encoded spell on it during my turn, does that encoded spell go off when I attack them?

Yes it does!

702.97c The card with cipher remains encoded on the chosen creature as long as the card with cipher remains exiled and the creature remains on the battlefield. The card remains encoded on that object even if it changes controller or stops being a creature, as long as it remains on the battlefield.
