I can't wait till the first. I've got 2 decks brewing in my brain that needs gatecrash.
Anyone else who is counting the minutes till they can get boxes and fat packs?
Can't wait to trade all my janky rares for Shocklands! I need like 6 {Godless Shrine} to finish some decks.
I need some shock lands and hopefully {Duskmantle Seer}s, and I'm really looking forward to {Dimir Charm}, it may just be my favorite instant/sorcery ever! If not, it's on my top 5, but only because it doesn't draw... Also the milling in Gatecrash looks awesome too. So basically I want every Dimir card and nothing else, except maybe a {Breeding Pool} or {Godless Shrine}. Or maybe a {Blind Obedience}, too.
I'm just going to trade everything I open for Shocklands, they're really the only things I want. {Blind Obedience} for my Esper deck would be nice, it's an actual decent control card for once.
I am putting together a naya aggro for Dennis to pilot till the next set comes out. I personally will run Tfog, Auras, or Esper control (maybe even {burn at the stake}/{massive raid} combo), and we ate still deciding what Danny will play. Since it's all from the same collection I have to have all the shocks, but Im not desperate for very many other rares.
I need to have:
5 {watery grave} have 2
4 {temple garden} have 4 but need 4 more
4 {sun petal grove} have 4 but need 4 more
4 {stomping ground} have 2
2 {obzedat, ghost council} have 2 yay!
4 {godless shrine} have 2 and a FOIL!
4 {breedig pool} have 3
4 {sacred foundry} have 0
4 {blind obiediance} have 2 or 3
4 {legion loyalist} have 3
4 {firemane avenger} have 1
4 {frontline medic} have 1
3 {aurelia's fury} need all 3 still
3 {merciless eviction} have 1
With those I be ready for standard competition and Ill pop prize packs and trad for the rest of what I want.
Once I open my boxes ill see you on the trading forum. Everything must go! Shocklands or bust!
Honestly, I just need shock lands :P
{Merciless Eviction} and {Blind Obedience} are ok too, and {Obzedat, Ghost Council} is amazing.
Do you need shock lands to be competitive in standerd?

Yes
-edit-
Unless you're playing mono colour
.....
Edit: so it's a tempo thing

For the most part, yes. The only top 8ing deck that doesnt need shocks is mono red. You might be able to make mono green or even black make it.
The fact that they're good in all formats also helps with their desirability as well.
So I guess I'm keeping my {stomping ground} then. I don't think I'm going to need my {sacred foundry}, but it's already promised to someone else. I there a way to make two color work without a shock land competitively?
Edit: I meant {sacred fountain} :P
Of course decks can work without. It's just a matter of how competitive do you want to be. Nine times out of 10 a {watery grave} is a turn faster than a {drowned catacomb}. That one turn makes all the difference when you're competing.
Edit: I just saw where you said "competitively," making this whole post redundant. Ill let someone with more competition experience than me answer this one.
In this case, I am looking for {breeding pool} {stomping grounds} and {sacred foundery}
Edit: what about mana auxiliary creatures like {Llanowar elves} or whatever there called?

{Arbor Elf} and shocks ftw
Actually. I think I figured out a build that can work two colors without shock lands. Inspired by an intro pack

Mana dorks, they are very nice, right now Standard has {Arbor Elf} and {Avacyn's Pilgrim}, not bad.

For Budget decks, Guildgates work as a decent Shock replacement, and {Evolving Wilds} isn't half bad either!

Let's not forget {Somberwald Sage}! He's the leader of the dorks.
What if someone built a deck full of mana dorks and took advantage of it to cast really sick, kick @$$ combos. The deck could be called..."revenge of the nerds!"

No kidding! If i have any kind of removal held back, I instantly just say "screw countering your bomb, kill the sage!"
{master biomancer} can remedi this problem. As well as many other simic spells...hmmmmm
I feel like {axebane guardian} is often overlooked. He doesn't even need other defenders to work. I mean yeah, he cost three, but he can be brought out faster with other dorks, and he isn't color specific like {avacyn's pilgrim} and {arbor elf} is.

Going to have to agree. The only time I see him used is in conjunction with {Bonfire of the Damned} and the {U} AVR card that allows infinite mana. The name of that card escapes me though...
{Galvanic Alchemist}! That's it.

{village bellringer} and {soul of the harvest} work pretty welk
Theres also a thing in gatecrash that makes all your lands dual lands, I forget what its called though
Esper needs shocks to have {Plains} open to {Terminus} on an opponents turn off a {Thought Scour} or something that draws you a card out of turn. Besides that, no, I don't "need" them. I'm happy playing draw-go as long as someone lets me, just gives me more time to find answers and stabilize.
