Title: Response Guttersnipe
Post by: Brissan on January 29, 2013, 09:24:56 PM
Say I am at 2 life and my opponent has a Guttersnipe on the field and I have out a Dinrova Horror (which sends a permanent to its owners hand when it enters the field). My opponent, on his turn, plays an Izzet Charm to draw and discard 2, triggering Guttersnipe's ability to deal 2 damage to me. If in response to him casting Izzet Charm I flash in a Restoration Angel and flicker my Dinrova Horror, triggering it's ability to send the Guttersnipe back to his hand, will the Guttersnipe's triggered ability deal two damage to me?

If it's already triggered it still takes effect

But If I am responding to his Izzet Charm with my angel, putting it ahead on the stack, the triggering would occur after my Angel and Horror combo, no? My angel and horror resolve before the casting since it is in response, or am I wrong in this

Guttersnipe states when a spell is cast not when it is resolved, so you'd be dead. It would stay on the stack is what your asking I suppose

Okay thanks, so the Guttersnipe deals damage as soon as the instant/sorcery is put on the stack even if I respond and kill or remove the Guttersnipe?

Snips ability would still hit the stack. You can remove guttersnipe, which would prevent further damage, but his ability will still be sitting on the stack waiting to resolve. Once the ability is placed on the stack, the condition of guttersnipe means nothing.

RESOLVED

Basically, if you are at 2 life, and your opponent has {Guttersnipe}, and your opponent has priority, you are screwed. ;)

My question: would {orim's chant}, placed second on the stack above a spell, resolve firs ajd retroactively remove the casting of the spell? Or would they only not be able to cast any MORE spells after the stack resolves, becase the original spell had already beencast?

Like I said, if your opponent has guttersnipe and priority, you are screwed! The spell is already cast when put ontothe stack. The chant only effects future spells.

And only after resolution? Opponents can play spells on top of orim's whil its on the stack?

Correct! Spells generally do not effect anything until thy resolve...unless they are weird and have split second.

Really the only answer would be to gain life at instant speed.  {Sphinx's Revelation}!
