Real quick, I'm still pretty new to this and rather dumb.
The way I learned instants is that you can play them whenever you have priority but I wasn't sure if you got priority in between declaring blockers and the damage step.
For instance, if my opponent attacks me with a {vampire nighthawk} and i decide not to block, can he then use {giant growth} to do more damage to me knowing I'm not blocking? Or do you have to do it as blocks are being chosen?
He can use it after
....use what, when? Would you mind elaborating on that a little please
Basically there are a lot of steps
Declare you're attacking
Fast effects
Declare who's attacking
Fast effects
Declare who's blocking who
Fast effects
Damage being done
Hope this makes sense
Fast effects is instances or abilities you can cast.

Yeah for the mOst part, but basically what your saying is you would be able to use giant growth if they don't declare a block and then there's nothing they can do about it aside from using another instant to counter it?
Correct
If he is not blocked then he using something to boost his power you cannot change your mind and then decide to block him now. But like you said you still have time to do a fast effect before the damage is delt
Yup. Old tricks are the best tricks lol
Gruul takes advantage of this fact. With blood rush. Wait till after they pass tr blocking step or leave a measily 1/1 unblocked and then BOOM. Large pump from out of nowhere
