My faith in humanity can only be restored if the majority of people on this forum get this answer right:
40+40x0+1
Is the answer 41 or 1???
Ima keep a tally here:
Right: 3
Wrong: 1
27: {MisterJH}
1 of course. 40*0 equals 0
PEMDAS says 41
41. 40x0 goes first. Then you add the first 40 to the zero, then add the 1. PEMDAS!!!
Beat me to it Keyeto :P

I meant 80 :p. and sense when does it go from right to left?
PEMDAS
Parenthesis
Exponent
Multiply/Divide (in order of left to right)
then Add/Subtract (in order of left to right)
I thought it went left to right. And I meant 80 :p
Edit: I don't see any parentheses
41. If you do it in correct order, it would be read like this: 40 + (40 x 0) + 1. This would simplify to 40 + 0 + 1, which is 41.

PEMDAS is order of operations. There doesn't have to be any parenthesis. It's like an If:Then kinda deal. IF there is a parenthesis, THEN figure that first. Then, IF there is an exponent, THEN figure that next. And so on. And PEMDAS is just Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction.
But I don't see any parentheses In the original problem

But I don't see any parentheses
Multiplication and Division come before Add and subtract

The parenthesis above are just used to make a point.

PEMDAS. Multiplication and division after Parentheses and Exponents, and there are none, so multiplication first.
ANYWAYS.. I just wanted to post this here because there was something on FB... "Like if the answer is 1, comment of 41"
There were 38.6 THOUSAND likes...and 2000 comments, 1/4 of which were people arguing the wrong answer...
27?

You just blew my mind....not really...but I gave you props in the original topic ^^^^^

I hate things like that. There was something on facebook like, "Like if you like when a girl purposes to a guy" and it showed a girl down on one knee with a ring. There were thousands of likes, shares, and comments. Sometimes grammar just gets to me.

Honestly, there are too many stupid people in the world... There are people that make mental errors, and then there are idiots who don't care about life and spend all their time on Facebook and dont work hard or study to get somewhere in life...it kind of saddens me...
And all these posts on Facebook need to stop before I lose all faith in the human race and get my suicide gun out of pawn...it's ridiculous :/
I know!! If I'm watching something on Youtube, I make it a point to not look at the comments, ESPECIALLY if it is a Call of Duty video or something that even hints at religion/.politics.. People just don't know what they are talking about or how to talk about it...
Exactly.
And religion is the big one... I'll be honest, I'm not Christian... But that doesn't mean I have to throw that down someone's throat.. Just because you believe something different than others, doesn't make you better... And just because I'm not religious doesn't mean I cant win a religious arguement Mwahaha because I don't like to be ill-informed on any subject (I don't like losing arguments) so I study religion... The bible being the one I've studied most because so many people around here use it as a catalyst...
And when it comes to .politics., I don't even know where to begin....i'm 17 and know more about .politics. than my entire county :/
lol I just don't start/join arguments about either. I am a christian, but I don't join into any arguments because they always seem to go in circles. And I'm 17 as well, but I don't follow .politics. at all, so instead of boasting a false sense of intelligence, I just sit there and look pretty during a political debate lol. No sense arguing for something I have little to no knowledge about.
Guess I lived up to my screenname today. Lol. Anyway, don't judge me please just because I can't do math anymore. I'm a stupid person who will try and correct his serious faults when he finds one
Understandable. If you don't understand a topic, there isn't a use in sayinganything about it...most people don't get that :/ I just kind of sit in the corner until someone starts an arguement with me or starts criticizing someone else.
Also, of I could give you +1 I would lol
Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally, was how i learned order of operation. Anyone else?

I don't always judge people, but when I do...
It's not likely because they made a minor mathematical error that had already been made by thousands of others.
Ehh, but seriously. No big deal. Lol

Oh trust me, this is probably the only thing I got from my math classes. I'm horrible at math.
Huh...I just remembered... I'm going to fail my Trig test tomorrow xD

Probably. My guess is it stands for the same things, except p is parentheses and b is most likely brackets. And as Testset mentioned already, division and multiplication are at the same time in order of operations, so switching the D and M in the acronym doesn't mean anything.

Also I'm sure this does not represent wether a person is dumb or not. There are many smarter people that don't know how to do this
