Title: Pack to Power...Advice
Post by: Coffee Vampire on January 24, 2013, 09:23:28 PM
I want to do "Pack to Power", but I don't know which pack to buy. Is there a recomended set that is more "legit" that everyone uses to start P2P? Or does it not matter?

Oh and feel free to tell me how you are doing in it if you are doing it!

Don't pick a core set. That's all.

It doesn't really matter. The trick is commitment. Even if you open a pack of RtR and open up a {Search the City}, the "magic" of it is lost if you just go and buy another booster till you have a high value card to jump start you.
That being said, having a money card helps a lot. I'd suggest you wait till Gatecrash just comes out, when many of the cards are overhyped. You'll have the same number of shocklands RtR had, and more "money" cards (for a time, at least)

Do you get prize packs per round you win?

I've seen plenty of people attempt to do pack to power. You've either got to rip people off, or get them so excited by your quest that they abandon value. Also, the piece of power you get will likely be in really bad shape. Another thing is the difference between the next closest thing (probably a dual land) and Mox.

I think the best way would be to deal with mostly standard items that are HOT. Like when a new set comes out. Trade for things that willgrow in value, trade plainswalkers right away for a lot of 5 dollar rares. Then eventually get eternal stuff. Farther down the road get dualies, and eventually trade those for a power9 card.

I wish you good luck, but these things rarely work out. You've gotta drum up interest in order to get donations/maximum value for your trades.

I was going to advise Avacyn since right now it has the most cards over 10 bucks, however the new set is likely to have really good uncommons that you can trade up as well!

Goodluck. PM once you get your pack and I will try to help you out.

This. To be honest it's almost impossible to do without cheating a bit. I certainly didn't get any of my Dual Lands through pack to power, nor my Mox Emerald!

Its not impossible and you dont have to rip people off. I did this but it took like 4 1/2 years to get an ancestral recall thats kinda beat up. I starded with a mirari back in onslaught traded it for a demonic tutor traded tutor for a few things. After a year i finally had 3 arcbound ravagers at 25$ a pop and traded them for a revised dual land and tooth and nail. It took a long time to get better trades but i saved tooth and nail until it grew in value. I traded my scrubland into a volcanic island. Eventually i ended up with a set of volcanic islands and traded them for the recall i have :) im only shy of a lotus and library to have the power 9 plus library
