Title: Prerelease Idea
Post by: Xaol on January 24, 2013, 03:44:04 PM
It seems to me that the three best guilds will be:
-Boros
-Gruul
-Orzhov

Is it better to go Boros, splashing green for Gruul? This gives you a super fast, aggro gameplan.
Or is it better to go Orzhov, splashing red for cards like Boros Charm? This gives you an aggressive start, and a grindy, control-esque endgame.
Obviously it's limited, you go with what your card pool determines, but just in a vacuum, if you had to pick, which is better?

Best to go Dimir, splashing white for orzhov.

Wait, that's not an option?

Orzhov promo is best. I recommend orzhov splash boros or boros splash gruul.

If you generally play control or combo go orzhov. If you usually play aggro or tempo then play boros splash gruul.

I disagree, Simic is very powerful.

Boros has some of the best&cheapest commons that u are more likley to get in the guild pack including skyknight and the 3/2 guy for 2 mana

I agree with you. Simic isn't supposed to be 8 mana 9/9 with trample or 5 mana 7/5 with hexproof. It is a 1 mana 1/1 with evolve and you keep on evolving to make them powerful. Simic is a slow guild but if simi starts to get powerful it will get really Cary and dangerous for opponents

I'm going Boros splash Black or Green. I'm worried about splashing for Gruul because neither Boros nor Gruul have much card draw. Ultimately it'll really depend on what you pull in your 6 packs. You could choose Simic but get nothing but off color rares. You never know so I'm just kinda going in with a basic idea and trying to learn the cards as much as I can.

I didn't say simic was weak. I was just wanting to know what the other three guilds weaknesses were

Boros: relies on maintaining a army and does not have very many fliers (though what they do have in the sky is amazing)
Gruul: expensive...the dudes are either expensive to play or cost you card advantage to bloodrush
Simic: powerful mechanic cant really shine in a limited format due to time frame and randomized card pool.
Dimir: not super combat friendly and cant maintain a defense against more aggressive decks.
Orzhov: relies on answers and long matches and can be blown out by haste or bloodrush if the answer isn't ready.

That comment was more aimed towards the comments about what guild was best, I think this prerelease will be amazing! I honestly don't know if there is a best, in a perfect pool, it could be any of them truthfully! I hope I kick some face tomorrow!

Simic isn't supposed to have " strong creatures"  but if you leave him alive for a little bit then you're screwed. And anyways you can have more than the guild colors. I was either thinking simic with a splash of black, white or red but I haven't decided. I'm gonna decide when I open all of my packs
