Okay I have a card called voidweilder it says that whenever it enters the battlefield it can send back a creature back to its owners hand
Does that mean that when I send a creature back does my friend have to pay its mana cost again?

Yes, if you send a creature back to its owner's hand, if its owner wants to cast it again he or she will have to pay the casting cost.
