Title: Social skill improvement?
Post by: Birdbrain on January 13, 2013, 09:12:06 PM
Where do I need to improve socially? I sincerely thank everyone that reduced my karma. And let me know there is a problem in my social skills

I think if you had better grammar you wouldn't find yourself in this predicament. I personally haven't -1'd you, but others may have because of poor grammar or irrelevant/off topic posts. Just my two cents.

Thank you +1 for you. And I don't care if you have -1ed me or not. I just want to know why, not who

The irrelevant/narrow topics, commenting (but not contributing) to most topics and grammar. I would say those are a few reasons I can think of right away.

Thank you. +1

Is there any way I can delete some of those topics? The irreverent/narrow ones I started that is

Pretty much what those guys said. Misplaced topics, and snarky comments towards other members on the forum when it isn't needed. I, of all people, realize some of your comments are most likely made in jest and dont mean to offend, but others may not realize that. It's hard to tell through text, when you can't see how its delivered.

With that said , +1 to you for being proactive in wanting to change it. Not everyone is like that.

Only mods can delete topics, and that won't happen unless there is a real reason. However it's not like those topics will be held against you in the future if you try to change. Everyone will just forget them. So no sweat.

Like the others said grammar is one thing that could help. I would double check what you type before you post it so you know if its correct and makes sence. I have been complained at on another forums for my grammar so I know this will help.

I really hope people aren't giving negative karma for grammar. This is a multi cultural app where English is a second language for them.

You've earned a +1 from me, for showing that you want to make improvement. Most of what I'd have to say has already been said, but I'll say it for the sake of contributing.

As stated earlier, try and be careful with any sarcasm. It's very difficult to portray sarcastic or witty emotions through text, and very easy for people to interpret them as negative remarks. As someone who likes a bit of sarcasm himself, there have been a couple times where I've looked over what I was about post and thought, "Nah, someone might take this the wrong way" and rephrased it.
Also, try not to be too dead set on getting karma from posts. If you post constantly just to try and get positive feedback, others might start to get annoyed, and this would hurt your cause. If you have something insightful, helpful, or interesting to say, go for it. Just don't try to drown people in nice comments for karma. Good to see someone trying to improve though, kudos to you!

It wasn't the getting karma. It was wondering why I lost it that was the problem
