Title: Redirect instant

With regards to sorin's thirst : if my opponent were to play {Sorin's Thirst} ( deals 2 damage to target creature and you gain 2 life) and I use redirect to choose new targets.  Am I only choosing a new target for the 2 damage or for both. ?

Only the two damage it targeting. {Redirect} can't change his gaining life.

Depends on how it reads on the card that is doing the redirection

You change the spell's target entirely. Not only the damage, or only life. You choose a new target for the spell.
