Post by: Theroguard on February 03, 2012, 06:58:24 PM
If you attack with a double strike creature thats a 5,5 and block with a 1,1 will the damage hit the player afterward.

Not without trample.

Double Strike and Trample is such a Bizarre combination, it used to really puzzle me to think about how the trample damage would be applied, until I had it explained as just being either first strike with trample or a normal creature with trample, depending on the scenario and power/toughness of the creatures.

Really?  I don't think it's that tricky. I just picture a freight train, and the blocker can only stop so many train cars. 🚉

What there is a card witg double strike and say "when this creature does combat damage you may draw a card." would you draw 2 cards because of DS or just one?

You'd draw each time it dealt combat damage. If the creature blocking this creature survived the first round of damage  your creature would deal a second round an youd draw twice.

Yea, so when I put {sword of war and peace} on my {mirran crusader}, I heal for twice as much and my opponent takes twice the damage :-)

Right, but if they block your a {Mirran Crusader} with lifelink with a 1/1, you only get two life, not four.  If they {Unsummon} their chump, you'd get nothing, since no damage is dealt.

You can think about it this way as well.  I can declare a blocker and sacrifice him right after he is declared.  The attacking creature is still blocked even though my creature is already gone.  The same is true for a double strike that kills the blocker in the first strike....second strike is blocked even though the creature is gone.

So does a {Markov Blademaster} wind up getting two +1/+1 counters if it's unblocked, or does combat damage to a planes walker/player work differently?

It'll trigger each time, but only vs players not PW.

{markov blademaster} + {spirit mantle} is awesome....FYI. I have a double strike R/W deck that uses that and {curse of the stalked prey} and lotsa good double strikers to reap havoc.
